Any Bergey inverter experts out there? put new blades on our turbine last week and nothing is working, sparky says its the inverter which means sending it back to the States, a second opinion would be nice.

Would it not be cheaper to replace with another inverter. Prices have come down a lot

Quite possibly, it's the knowing which one to get. Anyway got my own sparky to have a look today, he thinks one of the phases coming from the turbine is low, so the next job is to drop it and inspect the top end.

if the inverter is faulty it will be giving out a fault code, we get a lot of inverters not working due to grid voltage being too high, when you get this fault you do not get a fault code, it just keeps restarting and checking voltages,

You got the rams to be able to lower it yourself or hire them in?

One of our problems is the digital display isn't working, so we cant read the fault codes, my sparky thinks it's a circuit board thats the problem, have emailed Bergey to see if they'll supply one. We found one of the brushes at the top of the tower was stuck in and not contacting the slip ring, so it was only working on 2 phases.

get your sparky to check for voltage from the generator is getting to the inverter, as above if there is no input from the generator the inverter goes to sleep, as for the inverter itself the main failure with inverters is the power transistors, quite a lot of them are made by fairchild of America, if it is just a power transistor failure we repair them our selves, if more involved we have a good tv engineer take a look

This is the inside of our inverter, we have power coming as far as the circuit board at the bottom but it doesn’t seem to be coming back out.

the power coming in has to be from the generator and not just from the grid, check any inline fuses for continuity
I'm assuming my sparky knows that. Still waiting for Bergey to reply to my email, I'm hoping they've had a week off for July 4th.

Yeah we've got bergy but would rather take it down ourselves than get other people in so looking at getting some. Did you buy the rams with the turbine or get them made up after?
Interfluid made the rams, Hutchinsons engineering who supplied the tower made a set of hinges and the brackets, 2k for those and another 1800 for the rams.o_O
