Certainly not a snipe it’s small size of a robin or sparrow

Jack Snipe...not much bigger than a Sparrow.

Looks like a Jack Snipe, but you have a better idea on the size you saw. Those wing bars look very distinctive. Was going to put the same photo up as @agrimax

Bird ID you ask?

Maybe get a law passed that all birds carry their own ID? That way, we wouldn’t have these problems. You just ask to se their ID!

We could produce the ID cards.

It would please Kwis too, no confusion over which you can shoot. Win win.

I'm with the Jack snipe brigade,saw one week or so ago working open ditch on roadside(the bird not me )

Ear tag them, it should be law that all birds are ear tagged by the farmer whose land they are on and make it part of the Red Tractor scheme.

Jack Snipe are small. Had one fly up in front of me the other morning, and first thought was "That's a Snipe that's shrunk in the rain".
