Black bag mastitis

Have a ewe that got ecoli mastitis back in May, vet treated with apotil. Got her through it, took her lambs away and has had the summer to recover. Now found her in field with a cold black udder, looks like blood collecting under the skin surface , though she is well in herself. I was planning on sending her market next week though that’s obviously off the cards now. My question is, if/when it bursts how long is it going to take till she is able to go market? I’ve only got her and 1 other ewe to cull, all my fat lambs have gone and my ewe lambs going to winter keep next week. Don’t really want her running with my ewes after tupping. Am I better off just calling the knackerman or is it something that heals fairly quickly once it’s burst ?

Cull the other one now before there’s a problem with her. This one could be weeks or months. All depends.
Yep intending to. They were only running with the ewe lambs to tame them up a bit after weaning. The other one was a c section so no issues there, I’ll get her gone this week. Think we’ll call it a day with the mastitic one.

If you had time I’d say cut the test off. Let all the poison out of it’s gone stone cold. She should be ready within a month too go again then. Other than that it’s a knacker job

At any point in the near future she's going to look awful. If you don't want the mart health inspector giving you the come hither look I would personally give her a bucket of meal, pop and call the knackery. Others may want to hold out for the cull price but if they are dragging on at this time of year I'd git rid as soon as possible.

That’s what I did, well the knackerman did this afternoon. Job done, holding out for a cull price would have probably meant keeping her for several months over winter. So I’ll sleep better tonight knowing it was the right thing to do.
Well done. Far to many sheep hang on for 2 months looking dreadful and making you look bad then die in December. I now shot anything in mid September that isn’t fit to travel to market (5 this year) suddenly the flock looks is much better.
