Broken mouth scotch mules

I heard the same from a local farmer a couple of years ago. He reckoned he only got three years out of most of them too. I could hardly believe it at the time.
Its just not sustainable to be running ewes for 3 crops is it! They have been good sheep up to now, they keep condition well, produce strong lambs and better foragers but now have fallen out of favor. I will see how my 50 new ones perform and keep there teeth.

I had a bunch of welsh mules once that all went broke by 5 crop, I do find my ncm a pretty good on the whole.
We have our own white faced Welsh mules and there's been plenty of seven or eight year olds with all their teeth. Coloured types we've bought to top up numbers have not lasted past five, scotch mules not much different to the whites but hard to get in mid wales. A lot of Beulah specked face breeders have a couple of blackie tups wandering around the place and their mules are better for it. Better teeth, more bone, better bodied.

Sorry I meant to say they where speckled welsh mule that didn’t last. I’ve got 5 (out of 6) white ones that I think are 7 crop that I bought cheap late one year.
