Camera mirrors

I've seen a few of these on the motorway and was very dubious till watching that video, absolutely awesome how it will always see the entire length of the trailer! Does the camera 'arm' stick out as far as a conventional mirror?

What happens when that get bashed off down some horrible lane on the way to a farm? Then surely can't legally carry on till it's fixed, how quick would you get up and running again as opposed to popping a new glass in or simply folding the mirror arm back out?!

I'm all for it though, we've started fitting cameras to a lot of our gear, makes life so much easier!
Spoke to a friend who has a haulage firm about them after reading this post. Apparently take a bit of getting used to and if they get damaged the truck goes into limp mode, so need a dealer call out to repair. They were impressed but had conventional mirrors in the end.

Both the camera and screen require 12v power as well don’t they? Are the £50 eBay jobs fairly decent?
Yeah they do the job one of the lads on work has them on the Baler not sure if he’s spliced it into the sidelights for power I know he’s done it that way on one of the trailers, I went for the 4pin adapter lead for the fieldstar and datatronic screen so run it through either and they take the power direct so no need to splice in somewhere

I have a few mates that drive these new mercs. They all hate them and a say it’s hard to judge distance and they are really awful at night

Cameras are great for certain things but not as mirrors on trucks. I've heard that the small number of Merc trucks that arrived here are not working well after initial enthusiasm and new orders are coming with mirrors. Length of NZ units and night operation were issues I think.
I've no personal experience with them.
