Can I Keep Them?

Buy a load of old seed harrows at a farm sale put them upside down like an agricultural stinger or if you want to be extreme high tensile fence wire across gateways just high enough for a dismount over the handlebars
Trouble is it’s an 80ac block open access on three sides, it also rented so doesn’t warrant me investing in fences!

Out of my hands now anyway, spoke to my brother in-law this morning and the stolen vehicle squad has recovered them. Said they’ll let me know how they get on.

All this rural crime we have to put with continuously, and cops dont give a fork , this crowd are more a danger to us than terrorists , yet they dont do anything !! Yet if you had 7 people round for dinner you might get a knock on the door , go figure !

Just heard the stolen chainsaws we discovered can be collected back from the Police station and kept if they are not claimed within in 28 days... Having had the cost of recovery plob probably will not be so keen for you to claim these though.. HMRC will also be very happy for funds to fill this financial black hole we are in if these end up at a police auction.

Honda CRV is the weapon of choice down here. Local rural crime team is very good

Yes, same around here, they seem to float on water!! Glos has a decent Whatsapp group/Local rural crime team that seems to be gaining some traction but they dont seem to crush the cars like the Lincs lot do, so it seems the same cars are used time and again.

At least if the Police can't trace the owners and you get the quads back, then you'll be legally entitled to sell them on with no risk of being collared for 'reset' of stolen goods, as the Police gave them to you!

We 'found' a Peugeot car left abandoned in one our fields one morning by a junky who was stealing diesel from the neighbouring haulage yard. It disappeared that afternoon, only for me to spot it at traffic lights in town the following day; so I chapped on the window and asked the gaunt eyed twit why he was driving a car involved in a theft:
"It wasn't me, I told the police I was poaching and someone nicked me car, they gave it me back, you cant prove any different so f**k off!"

Those robbing recovery lot in on the action £150 each for the quad and £20 per day storage each , I have had a few run ins with them over our stolen handlers they want to charge £3 k per time and not bothered how much damage they cause we always get them ourselves now , last one crane hire firm did as a favour

Surely whacking a tracker on them and see where they get taken back to? could have solved hundreds of crimes and been a good excuse to do a proper job raid on a camp.
You would think that that was a good idea... until the Police refuse to go into a camp looking for them and tell you that you cannot do it yourself in case you cause a breach of the peace. Usually around here, if a piece of kit has a tracker, the tracker is the only thing you get back. Country cousins can smell a tracker from fifty feet and seem expert at removing them.

Ok joking aside, just had a bunch of quad bikes (5) chasing hares across my wheat and winter barley😡🤬🤬🤬.

Anyway one got stuck and one must have cut out or wouldn’t start, so I now have two very tidy quads in my possession 🤔.

Called the police, still waiting for them to show🤦‍♂️, bit late now anyway!
Question is what should I do with the bikes? One still has keys in (was still running stuck) the other must have cut out or wouldn’t start when they got disturbed but hasn’t got keys (no visible damage to ignition).
I’m guessing they will more than likely be stolen but what’s the legality’s?
Hand Them over to plod?
Is there any way of tracing the owner’s?
No reg plate, will check for serial numbers In the morning.
Always worth giving the serial numbers to PANIU http://www.datatag.co/paniu_website/

Down here they use any four wheel drive motor they can steal and just roar around any newly sown crops. Most farmers here have dug trenches and put in large obstacles in gateways. However quad bikes are a new one to be used and easier for them to make access to fields.

They will very likely be stolen quads and it is worrying that your local police did not come out immediately. In this area since we have had so much trouble there is now a dedicated rural team who are beginning to have an effect on reducing the issues from the Travelling community. The NFU have regular meetings with the PCC and Chief Constable (who was useless in Sussex) who is new and is putting money into the rural team.
Sadly they have nearly wiped out all the Hares with us and are now turning to Deer.
The NFU and CLA both have regular meetings with the PCC and CC in our area too. Once a year. Coffee, Biscuits and flannel. Ticks a box for the membership organisations though. Happy members, but still without their quads unfortunately.
