Cattle B&B

Its £2/head/day. Anything less and you're doing it for nothing.

Charge a head basis rather than the shed else they'll ram the shed full, use more straw and require more work to keep clean. Then the farmer will be moaning about how dirty they are.

Make sure they're decent payers else you're stuck with someone elses cattle.

If they start haggling then just go and buy you're own stock - you've already got the shed and straw and are happy to do the work. You might as well have the profit from it.
Just for the shed? Seems a bit steep that would be nearly £2500 a month before he’s bought any feed for them

Does that work increase much with the number of cattle in the shed?
The FYM is likely to be worth more then the straw. (assuming no transport cost for either)
The cost of having the shed does not increase if more cattle is in the shed.

Hence how does a per cow per day rate maximise the economics for either party?
No, but the maths will be very different to past years.

The more cattle in the shed the more often they need fresh bedding, more often they need to be cleaned out, more diesel burnt, more cattle to bash gates to bits if they are big animals, more feed area required/possibly fed more often. More water consumed if on a meter or even electricity to pump a bore hole. More management to check anything sick in a pen of 50 than a pen of 10. FYM is great stuff but if in a NVZ or keeping to the rules its possibly not that cheap to handle/store these days either. Depending on area there is risk of tb stopping the cattle from leaving your shed.

It needs to work for both parties and if somone tried pushing the fact I had FYM so be grateful this year when all my costs have gone up I would show them the gate.

What’s the going rate for cattle b&b now? Shed provided, water straw for eating and bedding, owner to provide meal to feed down a trough.
All ideas appreciated
£1.15 -£1.25 ish i reckon for cattle 12+mths old and 375+kg entering the shed. Shed owner keeps the fym

Neighbour gets less and less cattle this year but still has a good cattle set up and we have loads of silage but not much room. What would the going rate be for the shed space, water (from borehole) and my neighbour to bed them up with his straw and blower (and keep the muck for his arable)? We would supply bales for him to drop in a ring feeder and hard feed. We are in North Yorks
