Cattle in neighbours garden

Overnight I have had a batch of bullocks break a fence presumably trying to shelter from bad weather and get into somebody’s very well kept garden absolutely wrecking it. Neighbour isn’t there just now . There’s really nothing I can do apart from apologise ? I have fixed fence and shifted cattle but I feel bad . I’m sure plenty have had similar incidents

It’s happened to me a time or two. I treaded carefully was apologetic and offered to pay and sort out some of the damage. I know that can start the ball rolling for them claiming but it did stop any of that in my experience

Tidy up as much as poss. I cant see you getting away with just a sorry, a few notes and bottles of plonk might help. A letter on the door or get straight over when they come home to show concern will go along way too i would of thought.
Spot on - letter through the door so they know you are being up front about it. A few days will also probably help it to recover a bit. Might also be worth informing your insurers if you are likely to have to pay out anything - depends if damage is just to plants or things like greenhouses as well, and how friendly your neighbours are.

The mess is mainly champed up grass and walkway and general broken plants etc nothing like greenhouse broke . Seems there garden is quite a wet bit so looks worse with hoof prints filled with water . It’s grass let ground and fence hadn’t been great and I had mentioned it to estate but nothing ever done about it
