Looking for an easy calving but good growing AI bull for holstein cows. Currently using BB which are good. Would just like a change to Charolais. Just looking for suggestions. Cheers

Is that what the calf buyers want? Can’t normally beat a BB for calving ease on a Holstein.

When had them in the past always sold them easily and done really well but that bull is gone. But that was 10% of beef calves in fairness. Might be slightly different if everything was Charolais

If am honest I can sell them for same money normally and I just like them to look at. Sell everything 2 months old.
What's the gestation of your Charollais to your blue we are 9 days shorter with the blue than we used to be with Charollais, no issues at calving and an extra 3/400 litres of milk. Personally I wouldn't serve a cow again to charolais as long as I've got a hole in my arse [emoji23]

Thing is that we know hard / assisted calvings increases a cows chance of being culled for fertility and probably her medicine spend. Market topping calves can often be at a greater expense. Far rather see a small beef calf and a cow romping away and getting back in calf!

We used to run ch bulls, so long as you get the right bull you'll be fine.
We sold them all as 24 month stores and they'd average streets ahead of the blues. But as stated easy calving is key

Why create cost and work for yourself treating downer cows? :banghead::banghead::banghead:

The Charolais bull what is now no more was extremely easily calving. Easier than the blues which weren't bad either that's why I asked the question on here but it seems it isn't common because nobody has suggested a bull. Which is good in a way because now I've a definite answer and life can go on without a need to change.

Haven't got any Charolais left but blues 281
A think reading through this thread it's fairly 1 sided. Which is helpful.
Cheers all

I would say the same about blues though probably an extra 3/400 milk per year using angus.

Have been using ch on friesian cows and sucklers for last few year with no problems. They every bit as easy as lim or blue but the mousy colour is only drawback. Using 2 bulls ch2000 and ch2218 both from dovea genetics and around 4 or 5% calving difficulty

I’ve got zero experience of calving Holsteins but a few dead black and white calves I’ve seen in the knacker cart look huge so I’m guessing their not that easy calving now especially with the cows being fine boned. So to me it seems silly to put a charalais on them as they’ll be massive and probably over weight by the time there fat enough. I’d say a good Limmy takes some beating
