Currently finishing 30 lim bullocks/heifers from my own dairy herd. Some Holstein blood, some fres blood. They are all 2yo in March/April. Slatted pens . They are fed 8-9kg per head per day made up of 2/3 beef ration,1/3 ground maize. Been feeding this since early December split over two feeds per day. Silage ad-lib but they don’t eat very much with so much meal. Killed 5 last week and they killed well..bullocks 370 kg ,3=/+. But that was the tops. Those left are still not finished.
Beef ration £200/ton. First ingredient soya hulls, then maize then barley.
Ground maize £175/t
Ground barley £175/t(flaked £190). This probably sounds expensive to mainland farmers but this is N Ireland!
Can I feed 60% barley,40% maize at 9 kg per day?Don’t need protein, they’re big enough.

I'd leave it as it is, the 5 cattle that are away would have been the pushy ones, the rest will get a better chance now. I killed a bossy one last week along with 2 others, and you could nearly hear a sigh of relief from the rest of the pen to see the back of him

When you’re feeding silage I’d stick to beef ration, though either get one with maize top of list or keep adding in yourself.
add plenty of salt and limestone.
not a fan of barley especially in our country, no power in the home grown stuff

Just a wee update.
I changed to 60%flaked barley,40% ground maize yesterday morning.
Today I have 25 skittering bullocks/heifers with last nights meal still lying.
