Cheap umbilical setup.

Looking to spread our effluent more effectively and utilise it better than we are currently. Have had ideas of umbilical systems, but the price of the lay flat hose is staggering. We have a reasonable pump (electric) that currently pumps to a traveller but this only has limited area it can spread, with not so great coverage.
we have heaps of around 75mm mdpe pipe (alkathene) with cam locks. Instead of lay flat could I potentially use this hose in the paddock? I understand it won’t be as flexible but just thinking might just try it and see how it goes. Anyone done anything like this? Will I be wasting my time?
thinking with the rising fert costs we will be able to drop our urea usage down if we use our effluent better.
what does a single jet umbilical spreader cost? Could one be made easy enough doesn’t look like there is much to it.
would be great full for any input.
cheers

Second hand pipe can be bought cheap if you can put up with the hsssle that comes with it… for light farmer useage that shouldn’t be too much of a problem… w second hand farrari pump would be pretty cheap? Even a new one isn’t that much.. spread plate if you wanted you could bodge something up with an old tanker splash plate in half a day … reelers again there’s always second hand old nails for sale for more that much… you could get set up for a few days pumping a year for probably 7-8k all in … but you really wouldn’t want too do much more than a few days pumping a year with it… and also at that you could of just paid a contractor too do a few days pumping a year and not had any of the drama too deal with

Used to know an farmer that bought a old irrigator for the pipe and ran a smaller pump to do all the land around the pit

2x 80 hp tractors,wife on the pump
Slower yes but independent and it worked for him
This is what I’m thinking. Our current effluent pump is electric and pumps to our furthest fields about 2km away slightly uphill. This had enough power/flow/pressure to run a travelling irrigator so why could it not run a umbilical system. Yep may not pump 100cube an hour but even at 50 cube an hour you would soon empty a pond. Our pond is around 3 million litres. This is like the irrigator we currently use. Not huge, but is a pain to move and I think the umbilical setup has better more even coverage.
Anyone made a single jet / splash plate frame like the basic ones? Don’t seem to hard to make but would be interested if anyone has made one.

I've set myself up with a relatively cheap system. Bought a 2018 Doda hd35 for £4k and then a reeler with 600m 4 inch pipe for £2k. Borrowed a twin splash plate to try it all out but got a trailing shoe coming which will mostly be paid for by grant money.

It was just a case of looking and waiting for the right bits to come up at the right money. Was surprised at how much second hand stuff is kicking around in dealers yards. Just need to be savvy and buy with your eyes wide open.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
