China to ban/tariff Australian wheat, copper, cotton, lobster, wine, coal, barley....the list goes on.

Cant say this is a surprise, beef will be on the list soon imo.

If they are banning or tariff, are they getting supply elsewhere, they are getting cotton from brazil.

Is there economy doing as well as they say?

This is what happens when you make a communist regime one of your biggest customers.

They estimate a 5 billion dollar plus hit to oz rural sector.

If they ban or tariff beef which is at all time highs it will break alot of farms as they have just paid historic high money after prolonged drought.

Interesting times...

I remember the tariff going on to the Barley, a bit of a tit for tat exercise I understood, but why all these extra goods? Is this a new thing?

apparently if you ring amazon they will take it back and give you a refund if when you open it up it's got made in you know where on the back in tiny print. If you are lucky they forget to collect as theyre overwhelmed with pushing stuff out.

I think its about time Chinese product got at least a 50% uplift in import duty on them , phased in if we think its required and that would move some production back to nearer countries and put us on a more even keel and if not at lease make some duty of it .

So some product would maybe cost considerably more , but we really cant continue to trade with china as is . It is one sided deal where they ultimately end up with all the cards, simply because we either gave them to them or they steal them and we say nothing

They learnt a lesson with the 80% tariff on barley, if you use tariff, then its off to court....hmmmmm china man say, hawwww we not use tariff net time.

So now the trick is the commerce department issue instructions to companies that they cannot source X goods from oz...and doesnt contravene any trading laws.

Hawwww got u there aussie.

China are bullies, and yes our iron ore should stop but our economy is rooted.

It's rooted either way but by stopping iron ore will cause major problems for them...

Good luck to China nothing illegal about it. Trump would do the same to any country which offended America, plus probably bomb them too, for good measure.

Nothing wrong with having national pride, wish our politicians would do the same when it comes to our best interests.

I think you mean Obama. Trump stopped random bombing.

I think they are doing illegal acts as they are making up fake reasons. There is no way live lobsters are contaminated with heavy metal as they claim. Its the same with every other product they stop. They just make something up and never provide proof.

Trump has criticised China a lot, but they are still buying record amounts of corn, soybeans and wheat from the US.
We are a small enough supplier that they can buy replacment products from another countries unfortunately.

Iron ore might cause them problems as they buy so much from us. Miners would not be happy though and it would crash our dollar. Mabe a 20 % royalty on all iron ore would be appropriate.

They are also Australia’s biggest wool buyer by a long way. They recently reduced the amount they were buying and dropped our price by 40%.

I was at a mates place the other day who is a XXXX beer drinker. This time he gave me a Melbourne Bitter. I said, what’s going on with your beer. He said he had found out China owns XXXX so he won’t buy it.
