Cleaning Machinery Down for Winter

I am just going to clean our hay making kit and store it away until next year.

Any advice greatly appreciated on what the best thing to spray/brush on them once washed off and left to dry...

I much prefer blowing kit down for winter. Then if you want to look smart, a wash just pre season. No water sitting about then and no one sees your kit in the shed over winter

Clean off as best you can don't wash, grease and run up, I often grease up just before finishing, last 100 bales sort of thing.

Grease, run up, spray bare bits with oil, put in dry shed. Wash in hot weather preseason.

Dont wash just blow down and grease oil them then wash before it goes out next year

Don't mean to start a 35 page TFF argument, but if you wash stuff, won't water evaporate after a few days in a dry shed anyway ?

not if you've pressure washed it into bearings...

How would you know what evaporation and dry sheds are? Have you moved from Crapweathershire?

Machinery dealers don't seem too worried about kit being washed and left outside for weeks, months or in some cases years!

I wish the panels of baler etc before it goes into the shed, i blow out under the panels but dont pressure wash. After alls done grease everything and let the baler run for half a hour.

Grease put away... Wash down late as pre season then ideally straight to work.

Important to get grain and organic matter from the machines as much as possible to make it not attractive to vermin who like to chew electric cables.

road compressors are the best tool

far more effective than an airline, a leaf blower or water

Wash it thoroughly, let it drip off replace any worn parts then grease Oil any chains and run it up.

the next day when it has dried properly grease it again and spray over with a diesel/oil mix.

then put it away.


next time u need it hook up an go.

works for me.

Can anyone recommend a gun to attach to a compressor to spray oil on kit? And is old engine oil ok? Mix with diesel to thin?
