Hello, I’ve got the TS440 4x4 with levelling head stock. It’s lime green with a black cab. I think I need a new starter as it started to get very lazy, even with a fresh battery. Now it will barely turn it over with a new battery. Anyone have any experience of replacing these?

Ford 6600 engine. Bolt at the back of the starter is not so easy to get to and often not there if someone has had the starter off before. I did mine and managed to get it in OK but you need patience. Mine had always been a lazy starter so you maybe want to fit a geared starter to rectify this problem.

Even more reason to fit the geared starter then! Smaller body so can use sockets on it

Hi all, forgot to reply at the time but I took your advice and put a 4.2 geared starter on there. Was easier to get the far bolt in due to size, but it did take patience! Been perfect since which was 2 months ago now. Thanks for the help.

Was having a clear out today and found some filters still boxed and on the box written Collins teleshift ih skid unit. Look like transmission filters to me would they be the same as a hydro 85? I don’t remember the machine only seen pics of dad driving it he replaced it with a teleram in 87 I think

Engine and transmission was a skid unit from the excavator range - I can’t just remember the exact model. A very reliable unit as far as I am aware.
That one looks like it’s seen better days - rad fan on the back steps?

The engine was disassembled to replace the rings. I'm a bit afraid of such a purchase. In Poland there may be problems with unusual parts. So far, everything has been purchased for Collins 230

Engine, transmission and axle were standard Ford units so parts shouldn’t be an issue. Rams were bought in. Frame and booms and tin work were all made on-site at Knighton factory. Electrical were all bought in , readily available items.

So there is nothing to be afraid of. Parts for Ford are easily available, I had a 555 excavator
