Compact Tractor Advice

I am looking to buy a used compact tractor and I need some advice/recommendations please.

The tractor needs to be around 110cm max width, minimum 23hp, with a powerful PTO as I will be mainly using a 4ft rotavator.

A friend mentioned to me that the rear wheels of some bigger and powerful tractors can be turned ''inside out'', if that's true i will definitely consider such a tractor as long as the total tractor width don't exceed 110cm. A front loader won't be needed straight away but if I come across a tractor that has one I will definitely go for it for a bit extra money.

I spent some time on the market to try and find the best option for my needs and I came across John Deere 855, Kubota B2400/B2530/B2350.

I am looking for a used tractor to keep the costs down and I prefer to stick to well known and proved manufacturers. Any advice/recommendations will be much appreciated.

I am based in Yorkshire if it makes any difference.

Any of the mainstream names will be ok. Yanmar iseki Kubota Deere etc.
just be aware of the grey import "paddy field" tractors. They are usually fitted with a rotavator and often don't have a 3 point link and pto turns opposite way

Thanks for your reply Dave,

Are there any good places that I can find this size tractors at a reasonable price? I had a look on few websites and so far i did not find many of these tractors for sale online. I must be looking on the wrong places.

Are there any agriculture places that sell used tractors?

I kind of like the JD 855 and so far I only managed to find only 2-3 on the market. I came across another manufacture that seem to be new in the market, Solis, but I am not convinced and I prefer to stick to JD.

It will be ideal to find a place that i can buy a tractor, rotavator, industrial tyres and maybe a sprayer at the same time.

Beware of the QF lot if looking in Yorkshire - do a forum search to find the stories!

Be wary of Grey Imported tractors as above - the problem is there will be no parts for them - most of the largest manufactures have different product line for European Sale and Asia Sale - so as an example see Euro Auctions list of compact tractors - do a search on the model numbers and you will find they are mostly None European Models with Paddy Field Tyres & a rotovator. - so avoid those, it is the same with Kubota Mini Diggers - may look the same from 50 yds, but Kubota UK do not supply parts for none European models,

Thanks for all the suggestions. I kind of narrowed my research on the JD855 and I am now looking to find someone who has one and it's for sale. There are so many other options but it's like a minefield for somebody who is not familiar with tractors. I noticed that everybody is on the same page when it comes to JD855 and that's what makes me go for this one. Unless somebody can suggest a specific model that worth looking at (25ish HP, 110cm width max and reliable).

I noticed that Bobwild have a JD755 for sale. To be honest I prefer to pay a bit more and buy the 855 since both are the same dimensions. I will definitely ask for a price since there is no price on their website.

It will be much appreciated if anybody can point me in the right direction on where to look to find one. I already had a look on the websites people posted in here and no JD855 for sale.

I am not into farming business and I don't know where to look for one of these tractors apart from the typical online places (ebay and autotrader).

Also, briefly what do i need to check when it comes to these tractors apart from corrosion? I am pretty familiar with automotive engines so I am confident I can check the engine. Is there anything in particular I need to check, hydraulics? PTO? 3point linkage?

Also, what sort of price am i expected to pay for such a tractor in good condition? I don't mind it being used as long as it's been serviced properly.

How much power will a 4 ft rotovator require, because a 855 is 24hp and 19 at the pto, I have a 955 which is 31hp and 26 at the pto so there is a big difference. I got mine about a year ago at a golf club liquidation sale. It’s a bit tatty but runs really well, got it to cut my now not quite so imminent certified caravan site and logging in the woods with cab, loader and mid cutting deck so a useful all rounder. Hydrostatic is good for jobs like mowing with constant revs. Got to get a set of agri wheels to go with the turf ones.

Thanks for the link, only 600 odd hours, looks a bit rough a the back.

The spec of it is similar to JD 855 apart from the width, JD 4115 is a bit wider. The only issue with this one is in Northern Ireland and by the time it comes across to me it will cost some money.

I am not sure how much power it will be needed for a 4ft rotovator. The maximum width I can go with is 110cm max, maybe a touch bigger so I am kind of looking for the most powerful tractor i can get with such width. If 4ft is too much for it i will downsize but the width of the tractor it cannot be changed.

I am wondering if there are any places I can grab a tractor at a reduced price, the same way you got yours. Liquidation sales, auction houses?

I have a kioti ck3510. It can handle a 6ft howard rotovator. I bought one of those cheap light Chinese rotovators and in 30 yards it broke 4 blade/tines. I have rotovated at least 10 acres with the howard and not one single blade.
