Construction industry losing red diesel

We have to declare that red delivered to the farm is for farm use now

just scrap red fuel and then claim back
this would mean the fuel supply could get rid of a whole class of fuel
red dye and fuel separation must add cost to the red diesel
we could also buy fuel from a truck stop on a fuel card then claim back through the vat system

Ploughing might just be confined to competitions. You might have to change your avatar...

If you want to make a fast buck, start selling black market oilseed rape cold presses!
Why would I need to change the avatar? 5l/ha establishment!

Swapping to kero is just a matter of changing the nozzle and pressure.

Not something I'd want to fiddle with. Using kero would only be feasible if all those who hired it used kero, as the tank arrives and leaves full.

Big repercussions in the Demolition world,
Have just priced a large Demo job, but is on hold for 12 months, due to other reasons,
We calculated an extra £6k of fuel if running on white,
You will all just to pass it on i guess the end user will have to accept this.
Gov need COVID money repaying is a good excuse i know its not right but as an industry we cant add anything onto an animal or a load of grain leaving the farm
but all construction folks can just up there rates you will all be in the same boat.

That was one of my points for keeping Red, you’ve got to actually catch someone nicking it if it’s white, with red you’ve got the opportunity of dipping their tank and doing them for evasion of duty, even if they hadn’t paid for it in the first instance. Personally if Red went I’d fill up at a fuel station. I’m fairly convinced that the general public would think that the removal of Red was a bad idea when I was in front of them at 8.30 on a Monday morning sticking 800 litres in the combine.
And then leave her parked on the forecourt while you did your weekly shop

the rebate could be set to allow a livestock farmer an appropriate extra amount - a genuine user of red need be no worse off

its the sinple way to stop all the fraudulent and miss use we see
I spent a harvest in Australia and they only have white derv. Everything got filled up at the farm tank. They paid the full price for the fuel and claimed back what they used for off road use. Pickup mileage was recorded at the m o t every year and you claimed on the manufactures claimed mpg. Everybody was happy with it as no car/ pickup ever is as economical as the manufacturers quote.

Scrapping red would trigger a discussion with his customers, I suspect. You get the idea - there are other energy sources that would warrant another look. Perhaps even putting in your own propane tank might be economic. Mains gas is still cheapest but not available to most of us in the countryside.

Disagree charge plenty,
Presently quoting against another known quote, can’t get anywhere near, £15 k out,
Cannot see how they are doing the job for what they have quoted.

Yes, it makes no difference to me whether it uses red, or kero. I use both here anyway. The fact remains though, it has to be one or the other.
The OP states that red may be banned for construction and highway maintenance. This thread has turned into an evangelical rant against the use of red for all agricultural activities.
I can't understand why some on here seek to impose their agricultural ways on the rest of the industry.
I don't post over and over again that everyone should farm using elderly blue tractors........
Very strange.

So will that mean farmers can no longer offer winter maintenance eg snow ploughing ?

So I could just say I’ve done 2 cuts of grass instead of one and run my pickup for the year on the extra amount I’m aloud ?

Very easy to be fraudulent with that logic
