The idea of the farmer providing diesel to a contractor is an alien one to me. I don’t understand why any contractor would trust whatever cr*p might be lurking in the bottom of a farmer’s diesel tank?:scratchhead:

£12-14/ac round here for mowing.
Double skinned plastic tanks should be bombproof, old rusty metal ones on the other hand…. I’ve seen some sludge come out of them 😬

If he had to put the mower on just for you and come and do it I would say £100 notes would be a good day for you and make sure he takes it
You can’t go to cut 5ac and charge the same as a day’s work of £12/15ac

thats how they all do it up here, fill up, on to the next farm, fill up , on to the next farm, no need to worry about running dry

Most know where to get diesel and which farms to avoid, if you see anyone with old tanks or 5 gallon drums forget it. I did a bit helping out a SP gang, 1000ltrs in a day was not a lot and leaving every farm onto next full was much easier never mind the cost saving waiting 6 months for payment…..

I would never put anyone else’s diesel in my tractor!
Local contractor used to, but had to replace injector pump on the shovel.
It's the way it's priced round here, so if you charge extra with diesel supplied it seems dearer, so the way said contractor now works local oil lorry turns up at the end of the job & fills everything, farmer get's the bill.

£12 acre here.

Yep its madness in my opinion. used to do it with pumping jobs years ago and filled up from some dodgy places. With modern engines being so fussy on fuel now I wouldn't do it.
Who supplies the DEF?
Also we found that many smaller farms only had small tanks and often wouldn't have enough anyway if you were on site for a while.

Our tank only holds 1000 litres!!! None of the contractors round here expect the farmer to tank them up.

I learned my lesson on having diesel from other farmers when I was a lad. One harvest time I was going home on my Power Major, just as it was going dark, when I was flagged down by a farmer's daughter, who I knew vaguely from School. Her car had broken down and she wanted towing home. I agreed, despite it being about ten miles in the opposite direction to my home. Needless to say the farmer was very happy that I'd rescued his daughter and suggested that he would diesel the tractor up for my trouble. All good, thinks I. Until the tractor ran out of fuel about a mile from home. Old b#$tard hadn't actually put any in it, just pretended to! :cautious:

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
