Countering veganuary

There’s an awful lot of creatures killed by growing and harvesting plants.

"In the midst of life we are in death"

Life is a fight for resources. You have a choice, either take the resources and live. Or let other forms of life take those resources and die.

Your choice.

Thought tat was maybe a genuine website so looked it up [emoji23].

Why is pig farming not getting a mention by vegans or farmers during any of the current vegan campaigning ?
Simple answer for that.....

Their closet bacon eaters, 53% of vegans eat bacon at least once every 18 months *
And 79% at least every two years*

*statistics might no be true , but look good!!!!???

I was in Edinburgh christmas market over the weekend, pretty much all the food stalls were very busy with decent ques, the vegan one wasn't so much, so although they're pretty loud with their message im not sure how many people are listening.
I was in Exeter yesterday at a Christmas market outside cathedral it was packed! I didn't see one vegan food stall .!I expected to see lots.!

Social media is hugely important now. It’s how those sub 30 years old consume their news, information and entertainment.

Its an area some of our industry bodies seem to ignore. I’ve asked Minette Batters face to face why they are not very active on Twitter other than their countryside magazine account which is all about lifestyle rather than factual information. She said it was not a priority at the moment.

There are loads of good accounts out there showing how it really is. I try but not great at it, though I do sell a lot of lamb through Facebook in particular.

The NFU/NSA/AHDB etc need to raise their profile in social media. They need to be more proactive and less reactive.

Personally I think the more someone goes on at you that you shouldn't do this and you shouldn't eat that that the more likely people will adopt a "your not telling me how to live my life attitude" and do the opposite.
A carefully thought out approach just stating the facts and reasons behind how /why things are done and how animals are actually good for biodiversity and soil health and how everything is reliant on something else for survival.
Education and balance is the key I think.
I think schools and universities are a good place to start if possible and just counter all the bad science and dodgy facts that the likes of zerobeef and the fungus processors are peddling.

Whilst vegans may be a tiny minority, I suspect the numbers are far higher amongst our younger generation.
There is also a whole group of people who want to "do the right thing" and are wondering if they should be significantly reducing their meat intake to help save the planet, swayed by all the misinformation. These are the very ones who would be open to the "buy local" and "sustainably produced" argument.

Education is key.

Education from the right sources, much as many on here talk about the PR machines of NFU or AHDB people want to hear from us, grass roots farmers, we to them are a much more credible source, even if its fed from the aforementioned.

Lots of little voices are better than one.

the whole thing is interlinked, no animals, no, s##t to grow crops, therefore less food, or, crops grown with s##t, or crops grown with manufactured fertilizer.
Therefore, the choice is simple, stop keeping animals for meat/milk/wool, and rely on fertilizer, stop keeping animals and starve, or keep doing what we already do, that is, feed the world.

Big climate change report out today saying how coal usage has declined but oil and gas continue to rise and need to be reigned in.
Great opportunity to plug the need for natural fertiliser and how intensive cropping without it will only add to the problem.

Just like I've been banging on about on here for years - a small *but very vocal* section of the media and public attack farming methods for producing red meat, and at the same time they berate us for using artificial fertilisers to 'pollute the soil, water and air'.
But they cant comprehend that organic veganism is an impossible demand upon farmers. They can have one or the other, but not both.
Bunch of ignorant bullying f**kwitts...
