They loose it here by employing too many idiots who have no common sense and supplying stuff to people who don't need it.then there is 'alledged corruption' where councillors do things to line their own pockets.a councillor insinuated that if my late dad bought him a new car he would sort planning permission.dad got it anyway with out having to bribe anyone.true story that

I'm sure if the same as vale of Glamorgan the sitting tenants had first chance at very favourable prices with constraints on selling within certain times and uplift charges put some people on their feet
I believe (but may be wrong) the Herefordshire Council tenants had their agreements terminated (where possible) and orders to vacate so the farms could be sold at market value. They have not been given the chance to buy as sitting tenants.

Councils don't lose money they waste it.
Local council here lost money in the Icelandic bank crash
Land is a solid asset, unlike investing in ice save or bcci.
Just imagine if they do sell and put all the cash into deutch bank which then collapses. No land, no money.
Better to take 5 acres off each farm, give themselves planning permission and sell it for housing for more cash than currently on offer.

Our county council paid a firm of consultants millions of pounds (I forget the exact figures) to advise them on how to save money. The consultants also get a percentage of the savings. I could have told them where to save the money for nothing... stop building new state of the art council offices, get rid of half the chiefs and get more Indians out working on the roads instead of having to wait for a job number before they can throw a bit of tarmac into a pothole.

Not sure about Hereford shire but here there were lots very good deals but that could be the councils agreements being in the tenants favour

It's a real shame for the individuals, indeed... but if these holdings are making a net loss for their owners (the councils) then they have to go. It's a simple as that.
the council can make anything loose money ,they just book more man power and office/legal costs to a particular thing and hey presto its loosing money, highways park a digger and bits and bobs in our yard if working local 3cx leaves about 8.45 parked up before 2 every time and its on hire with a driver they will be getting signed up for full day
