Cull boars and sows on a small scale.

I have a couple of old saddleback sows and a boar who are in good nick but past their sell-by dates and was pondering what to do with them. I'm thinking the sows could go for sausages but the boar probably isn't worth the cost due to the risk of boar taint. Unfortunately the market used covid as an excuse for stopping pig sales and they haven't resumed so I'm thinking the boar might have to go with the stock collector next time they are visiting. Does anyone have a similar quandary on a small scale?

Oh, well every day's a school day.
What does cull boar meat usually get used for?
Exported to Germany usually I think.

Cull sow and boar trade in difficulty currently I hear, Cheales at Brentwood packed up killing there and were taking a large percentage of the culls in the country.

They transferred their killing to C and K meats at Eye but there have been throughput problems there, long waits to book them in, alleged 6 hour waits for the wagon. I am told that the plant is not big enough.

Cheales should have a collection centre in mid East Anglia I am told, they used to have collection centres all over the place, maybe phone them to see what is going on.

I wouldn't suggest a private kill. The boar meat will be very strong, old sow meat not too good for non-spiced sausages, most pig kill lines aren't physically big enough to hang a sow or boar.

Sorry not to be more positive.

Thanks for the comments. Our nearest pig market now is 40 miles away at Frome and it doesn't sound as if the rewards would cover the time and diesel of getting them there..
It seems as if it isn't a good idea to get them sausaged for similar reasons and we could end up with a couple of thousand inedible sausis, so it might be best to just have them collected when there is a casualty to go on.

The last load that I sent average £200 each, unlike last year when they were making about £15
