Dairy sideline

Anyone got rough costings and output for 60 dairy cows on grass system vs intensive

that's exactly what I mean :banghead:.
fair enough ask opinions on here but funnily enough if I was about to change systems based purely in economics I would be doing my own homework, visiting farms. thinking about my knowledge my preparedness to do the hours etc etc etc

No im trying to work out potential profit vs the sucklers before i waste a milk buyers time ive already said this
Profit in sucklers???? Very little and very limited chance of reinvestment at any stage unless keeping alot of cow's

Don't take the decision too lightly as theres simply a massive amount of work and cost involved as i am doing similar at the moment and have reseeded acres of grass , knocked down 3 buildings and replaced with a new cubicle shed and feeding area and installed a mile of cow tracks and bought a bulk tank, bulk bin etc and having to redo all water and electrics on the farm and brought in a new water supply etc. And then there's a new slurry pit to go in and alot of planning costs and a now archaeology dig!!!!
These cost are massive!!!!!!!

Lely were around 148k for one in January or offered 2x Delaval VMS for around 200k a pair at the same time
In the end I decided on purchasing 2x fully overhauled Delaval VMS robot's with 12 months warranty.
Is that all costs or just vms?

I have a bore hole but I don't think it would past the testing and it carries alot of iron which will be sorted out at a later date. So have put a new 50mm mains connection instead of our slow 25mm connection.
We are connecting the VMS'S to my 3 phase connection.

I think the question to ask yourself is do you really want to do it?

There is no point going into dairy if you aren't interested and don't want to work with cows 24/7. There is no halfway house with dairy, especially when robots and more intensive systems are concerned.

I would look at contracts, and if you can get one and reckon you can get a low enough COP to ride out 24ppl, then go and see how they do it in Holland/Ireland/restoftheuk/NZ and find out what system you enjoy.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
