For context do you think you should explain that her replies to you are under a thread where she questioned Tom Heap directly?

I don’t think he is criticising Minette. She is the one with the passion who does reply.

The Food Safety Act 1990 provides for a defence of due diligence against any proceedings for the sale or possession of food which is unfit for human consumption. This means that the buyers have to consider how they assure the safety of their supplies and could have meant that they would have to audit all of their suppliers right down the chain at some considerable expense to them. Farm Assurance was sold to producers as a means of boosting the value of their produce when in fact it provided the due diligence defence the Supermarkets were seeking but at no expense to them. Instead the burden of cost has fallen on the producer. Farm Assurance had become a tool to manipulate the market wielded by the buyer cartels aided and abetted by the NFU. Witness the attempt to introduce Whole Life Assurance for cattle and sheep which will gove the buyer controls the ability to wipe out livestock markets at the stroke of a pen and take out any real competition for supplies in the market. This will deliver the integrated supply chain the cartels desire and bring Cattle and sheep production in line with poultry and pig production which will.not he to the benefit of the producer.
What is this food standards act about which the president speaks?!!!

So what they didn't reply to countryfile, most people have a life and will forget last weeks episode.

Livestock prices are breaking records this week, eggs and veg have gone up, do you really think the general public give a 5hi7 about Countryfile? they would eat cats and dogs if they were desperate enough.

Yes they are not perfect, but the constant NFU bashing gets a bit boring. The ones against the system are clearly in the minority as most farmers are members.

Very much doubt agriculture would have kept red diesel during last weeks budget, without the likes of the NFU, so they do benefit farming immensely.

I wouldn’t worry about it, if the intention of the BBC was to throw British farming and/or RT under the bus then this was not the week to do it, it was history before it was broadcast and I’ve not seen any evidence of consumers taking any notice. Tbh your opening post was a bit misleading, you were not accused of being patronising for “questioning their lack of a reply”, you said the RT people were “such lovely people” - that was patronising and MB was not afraid to pull you up, in the same way as she isn’t afraid of pulling up anyone she feels she should. But as for the NFUs lack of reply “she told the BBC they have blood on their hands for”. Tbh I also get why RT refused to take part, we have had a film crew here doing an article on TB, tbh we had to absolutely put our foot down as they had a clear agenda and were taking itself notice of what we said, luckily for them they turned it around. CF do the production, not NFU or RT so sometimes refusing to take part is right. Unfortunately The issue has become an argument over the handling by RT rather than the role of RT.

the problem is the media has so much time to fill ,and farming is such a broad church they can go and ferret out a topic and pic on it till the bones are white then pick on another part of the job, and tell every one what a good job they are doing looking after the public interest they can pick on us because we are such a disperate bunch we have no power

The ones against the system are clearly in the minority as most farmers are members.

Given there are 140k farm businesses in the UK and the NFU has roughly 55k members (a good deal of who are either commercial members who aren't farmers, or lifestyle landowners) thats not even close to being true. In fact the NFU is in the minority. It could well be the largest single faction (though thats by no means guaranteed) but it cannot claim to represent anywhere near a majority of UK farmers.
