DA's

Had one last year, the vet wanted to operate but the cow proved too feisty, so he toggled her as a compromise, worked well even though he had little faith in the toggle himself.

We ran for 3 years only having one, then we must have had 15 this year, have gone back to a high straw diet for my dry cows,I'll tell you in 12months if it has been better.

Had a very feisty 2nd calver twist and before we could toggle her she'd got up and ran off, despite being sedated:banghead: she has been fine since.

i was going to ignore this thread , but then realised i started a thread on scc so thought it would be rude

had a no breed cow doing 40l come bulling , milked dropped , then dropped more then dried up to nothing over five days , no mastitis or illness , she went sunken eyed on day 7 and died on day eight
vet said probably a RDA that torsioned

Had one suspect last week, dropped from 50kg to 28kg, had vet out to check for a DA but she was just ketotic 4.4 on the meter, pumped her with glycerol plus and she was fine next day.

The last one we had was the nutter cow. Five of us somehow managed to restrain her enough for vet to administer sedative. While she was hogtied and wrestled by five the vet was able to toggle her. Couldn't pump any fluid in to her as she had enough, shook us all off as we tried to roll her back on to her front got herself untied, het up and a tactical retreat was quickly agreed on. Started giving the dry cows some hay once they where housed this back end.

Are low yielders less prone? as don't think ive seen one
Less prone, but I'd say we see more on less well run farms where the cows would yield much better if fed and managed properly.

I don't think I've seen a DA for at least 6 weeks. That's a long time for me. Now that you mention it.
