No won’t see any hard life where it’s destined for think they hardest she will get is the occasional 4 mile trip with the 5t trailer or small baler. Just conscious on brake systems are different between them got the offer of two, ones fairly tidy 1394 handbrake needs doing the 1494 has been bought as a rich guys boat launch tractor and used twice in the last two years. Both similar hours.

Brakes are probably the biggest difference, drums on a 13, discs on a 14.
14 is usually on bigger wheels but the same sizes were optional on the 13.
Front axle will probably be different on a 2wd, the heavy duty axle was optional on the 13.
Diesel tank is bigger on the 14.
14s are more likely to have extras such as extra spools, a tandem pump and an assister ram, although there are plenty of poverty spec ones about too.

Are the brakes on the 1394 going to cope with a 5t trailer if they’re drums ?

1494 here is one of my more reliable tractors. Only problem is the hydra shift unit which doesn’t change gear anymore. I only use it in gear 3 lowest hydrashift though so its not really problem. Does all our fertiliser spreading with a 24m ZAM. Also does some power harrowing with 3m Lely. Manages it with ease.

Did lots of trailer work with 1394 before trailer brakes became fashionable with 6 tonne trailers on silage spuds and corn just need common sense .You could fit trailer brakes if you wanted but wouldn't think necessary for 5 tonne

Had both and most of the slurry done with the 13 in a 1300g nc with 2wd as the 14 had the loader On
I always thought the 13 was the better tractor but the 14 had the better spec probably need to drive both to make up your mind as there both able to do your job

We had a DB1390, neighbour had a (red) Case 1494... both 4wd. The 1390 definitely the better tractor, IMO. But I was happy working either.

Sadly the 1494 isn’t an option it was what would be described as scrap, brakes binding Badly on the back end and front axle so knackered I didn’t want to drive it any further then 10 meters up the road and that it was a 1490 painted red on wrong plates..... so the 1394 looks the option. Is rust the death of these old dB tractors?
