Desert conditions

...here.
Getting desperate for grass, even worse than last year currently. No rain forecast :cautious:
I made the mistake of posting a few photos on FB . It is getting very desperate and I'm buffer feeding straw to one group but then my Galloway breeding friends in Oz post up their pics and I feel very humbled

@Farmer Roy having to sell his house kind of puts it in perspective

Some up here in SUNNY Yorkshire might be mistaken for thinking this thread is taking the P155! :D
The photos of the Westmorland Show last Thursday were unbelievable.

I can assure you if you're a livestock farmer drought is just as scary as too much rain.

Three recent years we've had a 12-13 week completely dry late Spring

You never catch up for the year with that

I sympathize as that's how we were last year (suspect you and many others were too). This year is the polar opposite we are like the 'too much clover' thread.

Last year feeding hay in July and then flushing with feed blocks - this year worrying the ewes are getting too fat.

I don't know where you are in Cambs but we are only about 7 miles from the border

I think it's currently the driest I've seen our farm in the 24 years we've been here. Had a difficult harvest with showers stopping play but no significant rainfall since June and not a great deal then. All the lambs are going in the next week to save my winter feed for ewes. Been buffer feeding a small group of cows for a month already. And no rain forecast on the long range until towards end of October. Arable is just as worrying.

This Sunday’s Countryfile forecast sows how localised rain can be
Me and @beardface in the brown areas @Enfoff in the blue between us.

It's odd to say the very least here, since bank holiday it feels to have done nothing but rain it's getting on me now. I've 20 acre still to get in and will make a mess doing that. I've muck that still needs out and P&K to go on too. Missed my shot with a root crop because all it did was rain since the day the fert went on and couldn't get down to seed it as it came so wet, joke this year has been.

What I'd give for 3/4 dry weeks right now isn't godly... :ROFLMAO:

It`s always like that at Westmorland Show.
Judged there a few years ago. Set off from home - cracking morning
Peeing down on the M6 so called into Carrs at Penrith to get waterproofs.
Had to tell the handlers to stop walking the cattle round the ring as they were sinking deeper in each circuit.
