I’m looking for a bit of advice from anyone who has run/owned a discordon. Our farm is pretty consistent heavy hansslope series clay and after much deliberation the past few years over stubble cultivators we keep coming back to the Discordon. We currently run a KV stubble finisher that does a good job with a bit of moisture in the soil, but as soon as things bake out as it is now and in 2018 for example it’s a nightmare, it falls to bits and just does a very rough job. We have also hired in jokers/carriers the past few years which have worked well, and we are looking to purchase one at some point, but when we want to do a deeper cultivation or conditions are very dry they don’t cut it on the heavy land. We ran a discordon in the early 2000s and it performed well, I wasn’t involved with the farm then but the old man swore by it, it just fell out of favour to the mounted type sumo machines being more usable on small tractors. We think for what they cost now it would be a useful tool to have in the armoury, especially in these drier tougher conditions when we just want a heavy big disc to bite in and cultivate, mix properly leave relatively level (we will be following with a culti press And a vad). We could run one along side a joker/carrier, but to run something like a Quattro and a joker would cost us a fortune. Considered a Topdown/terrano mt but they are very costly machines and I’m not sure how they would cut it on heavy, baked out land. Trio style machine don’t mix enough for us and I’m not sure we need an full on subsoiling leg found on solo style machines. We have found a tidy 2009 4.2m to pull with a challenger 765, we have some proper banks so would rather stay narrower but be boss of it! Any thoughts/experience Would be great. Many thanks
