Hello all, I am in my final year at Harper Adams University studying Agriculture with Mechanisation. I am writing my dissertation on the productivity and efficiency of robotic dairy. If any Robot dairy farmers could spare less than five minutes to complete my questionnaire thhis would greatly help towards finishing my Final year dissertation and improving the validity and accuracy of my results.

Some thoughts as a non-robot dairy farmer.

1. Explore profitability. There's a lot of debt and risk tied up in robot milking. It might be perceived as productive and efficient, but that is not the same as "profitable", and often the two do not correlate.

2. For balance, try making contact with people who have had robots then a) returned to parlour or b) got out of milk.

Thank you, I will definitely be looking at productivity at the cost of profitability as well as a comparison with traditional milking methods, i aim to interview around 10 farmers each with different perspectives on Robotic dairy. - Kit

Robots give you marginal litres as they "give" you x3 milking plus. Fine when milk price is at or above CoP not so good when significantly below (as recently) as running costs are high and any lengthy breakdown has a dominio effect on the cows as there are only 23 hours in a robot day.

But there are good labour savings, cow health and milk quality gains from robotics

Dear Kit, is it possible to share your findings please when you finish your dissertation. We are currently considering robotic milking. Many thanks, [email protected]
