I am considering buying a pair of 9”high lace up work boots to help prevent me rolling my ankle .
So just wondering if any of you wear 9” work boots, year round while operating farm machinery , working with livestock etc?
The boots I am considering are William Lennon 79x safety boot 9” high version made to order.

Yes. I wear Alt-Berg Defenders, year round.

Probably not 9" but won't be much shorter, maybe 7-8". I've rolled ankles before and I absolutely hate wellies (never found a pair that fit well, give anything like foot or ankle support or are comfy!).

Unless you're going wading upto your knees it's no different to wearing wellies. Last time I was in a ditch proper, I was above the wellie anyway so had soaked socks/feet...
Wear waterproofs in winter and you stay just as clean and dry (and your feet are warmer!)

The only pet hate with boots is you can't just nip into the house to get something. But it's worth putting up with for me... also need to look after the leather to give it longer life (which I'm bad at)

I’m currently on my first pair of Altberg Defenders. For the best part of 20 yrs before that I have worn out several pairs of the black British army assault boots, all for the purposes of saving my ankles.
All were bought as army surplus, the assault boots were higher topped than the Altbergs, and could be quite stiff to start with depending how close to new they were, but always ended up comfortable

Somebody gave me a pair of these

Zip on the inside so never have to undo laces and very comfy. Easy on and off.

I have a cheap pair like that - lace them up from time to time just to keep them at the right tension. If I'm popping in & out they're good enough to wear without zipping them up, otherwise 5 seconds to zip them up.

I got them from my offshore friend so they were really cheap🤣

Mainly only wearing them while in the tractor or digger. But pretty handy boots. Don't know how well they'd last under rough conditions

I wear these and think very highly of them, light and comfy. Get at least 18 months to 2 yrs out of a pair on daily use.

Bought 4 pairs pre-brexit so work footwear sorted well into my 50’s. #futureproofed 😆

Been wearing alt berg defenders for several years bloody good supportive boots, but they will only last 8-10months before the soles are worn out and I mean worn out. By 6months they aren't to cleaver just need to find a solution to that problem I think lace up boots regardless of height are more supportive than slip on

If you wear high boots to "support" your ankles you will actually weaken them as the muscles won't have so much to do. So you will be more likely to twist an ankle when not wearing the boots

You also have to consider what there is in the tractor cab that you might knock with the top of your boot -PTO lever, hyd controls etc.
This ^^^, if you wore a cast on your wrists 8hours a day would your wrists become stronger or weaker?
