Dock sprays

Derek, that is a generic 200g/litre product and the maximum dose on grassland is 2L per hectare giving a total of 400g- way more than that given by full rate doxstar.

Starane hi load is a more concentrated product as milkloss stated but has a lower maximum label rate. I was sure it was 0.6L but apparently it is less.

The hi load is a good product and you will get more acres out of a can too. I am convinced it has a hotter formulation as wellas I used to use it a lot in cereals and grass and maize. It made the maize sprays very perky to say the least.
It says 0.6 Arable 0.4 New Grass Leys . That's what confused me .if it's just over twice as strong then why not half the amount being 1 litre

Its not double the strength, its 333g per litre as someone else mentioned.

Its basically a product designed for arable use so you add a dash per hectare and can cover a huge area without opening many cans. Starane is still used in a big way in arable circles. I used to use it in maize as it would flamethrower a lot of weeds just by waving the can at them.

Add it to something else and watch it do the business.

Have you guys read these labels? Starane Hi load is 480g/l and 0.45L/hectare for young grass leys not established which could go on roughly double that rate

Had good results on docks last year using Hurler (same as minstrel) at 0.5L/acre roughly £6.50/acre compared to £10.40/acre full rate. Wiped out the docks but didn't touch the chickweed though which is a bit annoying. More annoyingly knocked the grass right back before the drought/heatwave hit and lost a good 50%yield compared to the unsprayed part

Hopefully forage trader will make a decision before christmas time:D

I don't see why you can't use non approved fluroxyphr on permanent grass but can use approved fluroxyphr in a different tub with a different label. A link to the label here

Take a look at the labels for envy and starane xl both sold on farm marketplace here. They are identical formulations, both made by Dow but one is for arable and one is for grassland and the arable one is 2/3 the price of the other. So why pay more for the exact same thing?

That hiload 480g figure is a bit of a fiddle. The figure that is comparable to others is actually the acid equivalent which is 333 for the hiload.

Is Starane XL the same strength as envy??

They're identical. A suspension emulsion formulation containing 100g/litre fluroxyphyr and 2.5g/litre florasulam.

Starane XL has been used on cereal crops for years. The envy will have had to jump through a lot more hurdles because where it is applied to grass they will have had to conduct animal feeding studies to demonstrate its effects on them and where the actives end up and in what form. That is why you can't put Starane XL on grassland- it doesn't have the approvals.

None of which stopped many people when it came to putting Ally on their grass. It also introduces a range of interesting questions for CRD when you consider that I can spray wheat with anything I like, even Atlantis, and have it end up being fed to cattle as wholecrop 3 months later...
