Doda not pumping

So put pump all back together , didn’t change seal , couldn’t get it to prime up with normal pipe think it was sucking end of suction in, tried a short pipe I had with insert on end went fine only trouble is could suck out deep enough . This was before new year . This time I’ve put insert in my long pipe , tried it but wouldn’t go . Put short pipe in away it went , ran it for 5 mins then shut it off shut valve to stop slurry running back through pump , put long pipe on , primed it opened valve & away it went fine emptied the whole tank no leaks basically. The suction pipe was new & appears faultless. Is my primer wrong?
Are you sure the gate valve is sealing to the field? Seems odd it would prime once it’s been going and then closed so got slurry other side of gate valve to seal it up…

I think it is havent actually tried priming with the field pipe off too see. Only need this pump once a month roughly to transfer so it’s bit of an ongoing saga

Try folding the pipe over a few times and standing on it to seal it, or crack the pipe off and listen.
I know previously you said you could hear air leaking, did you get to the bottom of it?

Yeah the air was coming from the mechanical seal area . Originally when I put it back together to try again it was leaking a fair bit but seems to have sorted itself out in that department.

Sounds like you’re having a nightmare with this pump. We had no end of issues with ours before cutting our losses and buying a new pump!

Like I said I only use it once a month to transfer between tanks so couldn’t justify a new pump . When it goes it goes great it’s just the start up that’s the issue . Probably something simple just finding it the issue.

Have you a local ag engineer that specialises in slurry equipment?
id honestly take it to someone now as it’s been going on so long and you don’t seem to be gaining with it. A second pair of eyes might just see something you missed?
We had a new suction hose few years ago, never seemed right from the start then found a pile of mini air bubbles in the actual pipe wall,it was pours and drawing air in .

I think it has to be suction as it’s fine with my short pipe on . Wonder if I can pull pipe out wrap a bag over end of it & prime it to see if it pulls itself in
