Dribble bar with splashplate

Hi
I see that some of the manufacturers equip the dribble bar with splash plate. I`ve search the forum to find out why, do anyone have good good explanation? Isn`t the splash plate just extra unnecessary cost?

It’s for the first splurge of slurry coming through the pipe which is often carrying a bit of fibrous material left in the pipe after the last job.

And somewhere to shoot the sponge out to save it going through the macerator
