Drilling anyone?

Had a drive around today (Sleaford to Bourne) and saw one or two drilled fields, but what is amazing is how many uncultivated stubble fields there are. Even fields of round bales near Threekingham. Rough guess is half the county is still stubble and the majority of the rest is min tilled but not drilled.

We have some winter barley with 6m tramlines in, what a bloody mess, actually went in ok, was just the amount of rain we had after that’s done it. On the roadside where everyone can see ?

My stubble turnips haven’t grown in every wheeling this year. And that was drilled a lot earlier

Hi everyone,

I work as a field trialist at a leading CRO in the fields of Agrosciences and Regulatory Chemistry Consulting. I conduct crop protection trials ( herbicide/insecticide and fungicide efficacy trials) on different crops in the UK. Usually, I don't have difficulties finding good fields for setting up trials, but this year due to the high amount of rainfall it's becoming quite challenging. I was wondering if there is any grower who could help me out.
I'm in search of a field with a history of having a high pressure of Wilds oats which will go in Winter wheat. (best option not drilled yet -> if drilled no pre-em application done ->not the best option but still okay if it was drilled and pre-em sprayed) The field must be located in either Buckinghamshire/Oxfordshire/Gloucestershire/Berkshire/Northamptonshire.
If a trial location is agreed with the grower and the trial is set up, then a compensation will be paid at the end of the trial. Depending on the trial size and type (600-2000 m²) the compensation would range from £200-£600. ( More details in private)
Other fields I'm potentially looking for are:
High pressure of Black-grass in Winter Wheat and Winter Barley
High pressure of broad-leaved weeds in Winter Wheat (main targets: cleavers/chamomile)
The location of the field should be the same as mentioned above.

Thank you in advance! :)

Same here, bert.

Twice we thought we were being rather clever by sneaking in another 35 Hectares or so when all the neighbours were stopped, only to have another 65mm within 72hrs.

edit - and, I'm told, we've now got some bits of WO with 3m tramlines!

Probably wrong but drilling another 13 ha today, DTS into unmoved linseed stubbles. Its damp but not sticking to wheels but will be the end of any more DTS drilling. If I do any more, it will have to be ploughed and P Harrow drill but the remaining average is too wet at the moment.

Stupid question. I recall being involved with drilling WW into an old ripped up and ploughed long term ley in December many moons ago. Weather was dry and it did emerge quite well considering temperatures. Anyone contemplating this as an extreme option? Or is this just nonsense?

I remember last year in Nov/Dec sometime where I had ploughed some of my heavy ground for overwintering for spring cropping, walking across it and it was like dust, nothing stuck to your workboots, am hopeful we get the same again this year. A high pressure with an Easterly would soon dry it out enough.
Know of pasture locally being ripped up and drilled with WW.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
