Drought

Its not the lack of rain that's the problem, it's been the intense (for Scotland anyway) heat since it rained last.

We had the mother of all downpours yesterday, in fact some of us had snow. I've not seen rain like it in many years. You wouldn't think it today though.

Not much in the way of rain here yet, been overcast a good few hours, and we have had a sprikle of rain, but barely enough to keep the dust down.

Forecast does not promise a great deal either, with high pressure set to return early next week.

Having missed practically all the rain / thunderstorms last few weeks, some of the grass is starting to burn up now, and it could do with a drop or two.

That said, last few weeks have been most welcome after the miserable wet weather last few years, and I for one will be happy to see the sun return next week if the forecast is correct.

have to say we are dry but i think we will be alright with no more rain as we were lucky 3 weeks ago.

to be fair we in the east midlands are normally in this situation of drought in spring early summer.

Rain Wednesday night and last night and this morning amounted to about 20mm. Much appreciated, and I restarted the turbine which was switched off on Tuesday morning. Really nice to be working on hard ground instead of slippery mud.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
