Easy screeds

Seeing as I didn't get an overwhelming response posting this in the machinery section..... I'll try again here.

Just after people's opinion's on which easy screed to get. Altrad Belle seems to be available everywhere with aluminium beams. MBW Screedemon looks similar but with magnesium beams. Should I go for Al or Mg or does it not make much difference? Any other models I should be considering? Any advice much appreciated.

Not as good as the others because no vibration , the beams with engine in middle is rolls Royce plenty vibrating , roller can make easy job but imo need vibration to do a puka job

Okay, horses for courses I guess. Don't use any vibration TBH, just power roll then hand float with brush finish for outside work. Power float inside if polished finish wanted.

Just had shed floor poured, tamped with beam tamp as Hilly describes and floated with big blue float pole thingy.
Very happy with it and struggle to see how it could be improved.

If you get chance to see a power floated floor you’ll find that even more impressive! Flat float is disappointing in comparison imo.

Powerfloat inside, brush finish outside is my standard now.

I'd also consider sneekily putting in some under concrete foam insulation .. in the right places "for the future".

I built a silage pit long time ago and used a roller my dad on other end looking back wonder I didn’t kill him he was 75 years old 😂

My dad is about that age .. does worry me .. the worst is the occasional help watches my dad do the work .. he's there watching as my dad sweats away and my dad friggin lets him - he's about 30 as well - drives me friggin nuts.

His favourite job is leaning on a shovel.

I'd already asked the forum about these but they got poo-pooed.

We've used the double beam mid-engined type for years but it's got bent, so we're using this as a chance to try something different. Easy screed is attractive because it's a man less and more versatile. The rake men are the key to any job though.

We bought a screed demon earlier this year and are pleased with it. Simple for 1 man to use to use although we are limited to a 4m screed with with the machine we bought. We have used beam and roller screeds in the past but both require 2 men.

How do you set the level with twin vibrating beam, I found if it had any concrete Infront of it it just let it flow under instead of screening it off,
Is the trick just plenty rake men and keep going

We've laid around 240 cube this year with twin vibrating beams from 3.2m to 6m depending on the run. Smaller width one decent rake man can cope but you need two on the wider run. We found it needed putting in fairly level to start with to make the job easier. Ideally you want to just have a little in front of the first beam to even out any slight dips and then literally just a roll of fat at the second beam. If your pulling too much on the front beam or it's going off quick in mid 20 degrees in may then believe me it's hard work 🙄

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
