SSE have raised their tariff prices by 0.201p/kwh due to lower demand for electricity , an increase in non-commodity charges, lines etc

What's everyone paying?
Who's the cheapest in West Midlands?
Not due for renewal till next year but I've got every ruddy broker in the country and beyond ringing and trying to get me to sign a new contract.
I use about 50 k units a year, on a single rate meter running cold stores mostly through autumn/winter /spring.
Should I fix now or hold out till next summer?
Ben offered 1 yr @ 14.7 and 34 p sc or 3 yrs 15.5p and 39 p sc. British Gas. All the quotes are within a few points of a penny. Doesn't seem long ago I was on 9p. And that was too dear.
I just want to get a lower price so I can tell the cold calling brokers to F off. They do my head in and don't seem to understand the phrase " Don't call me, I'll call you if I'm interested".
With that amount of units and with timers on freezers you could actually get paid for using off peak electric.

How do you work that chestnut out?
Its the option of using Octopus Agile. If the electric market goes negative which it quite often does with over supply overnight then any electric you use you will get paid for. Even if it does not go negative it will still be a lot lower than normal day time rates. A lot of freezers will quite happily work on just one freeze cycle per day so long as there not continually being opened.

Just had a look at Octopus Flexible pricing, I can find no evidence it has ever gone negative. I agree that there is huge capacity in some areas for very much lower pricing on some flexible deals, but I think the days of huge over capacity is very limited thanks to the reliance on gas stand by and import /export to the continent.
The big generators and the grid are very good at predicting need and producing just in time.

Quite a few times last Dec and Jan it went negative but that was before they started to protect gas generators by curtailing wind generation.

That bollox

It's interesting to say something smart about Smart meters .. what do you actually mean ?

Here I'll help you .. look at 7 minutes in .. large relay to cutoff power.

"British Gas confirmed that “remote disconnection” is possible but that smart meters grant no additional powers to disconnect than with standard meters."

In other words if they want to cutoff your power and they have the legal right to do so .. they can.

Having just changed my supplier, I found that nearly all of them are now insisting on fitting a smart meter as part of the contract. I dont care as there is no signal here.

The little bit I did on contract law I learned that the contract should be to the advantage of both parties. Looking at the electricity contract, and the mobile phone contract, it is clear that when I sign up, I can like it or lump it. The contract is so far slanted to their advantage as to be almost a laugh.
The mobile mast was down 7 times last month. They still insisted on full charges, for a service they were not giving. There is nothing in the contract about them having to provide an acceptable service!

They'll only cut you off if you don't pay em
