is really all that bad, if so just let him go, plenty of good staff about to replace him,
or is it a case of something else, like having winter corn seed in the bag, nothing sown and land as wet as it ever has been, or lock down with TB or something else, sometimes its other problems that are big, get you down, but the small problem that breaks the camels back,

The guy clearly has zero respect for his employer as he is flagrantly ignoring previous warnings. If he isn't sacked, two things will happen. He will get worse, taking more liberties, such as poor timekeeping, absences, poor performance etc as he sees no consequences of failing to take notice of his boss. The other thing that will happen is that any other staff will get pee'd off with this guy's attitude their work will deteriorate on the "well he's getting away with it" basis, word will get around that OP is a soft touch and when he wants staff, good guys will not be interested as they don't want to work for poor bosses and the OP will just have a stream of second raters applying.

OP will then post on TFF asking why are there no good farm staff looking for work?

As for mobile phones in general, everybody should have at least one "phone free" day a week, to remind them that there is life offline

Sounds like a right t!t.

I don't make any personal calls at work. People probably think I'm a antisocial barsteward but i don't call others and they don't call me, they know i won't answer. My wife knows not to call unless its a emergency.

I can almost guarantee something will go wrong if I'm on phone and operating something at same time. I can't multi task. If i have to make or take a call involving work i just stop.

I do agree about phone use in work. However, being self employed and when doing something basic like rolling I will answer and make phone calls if they are important: in fact the only calls I generally make and receive are important, got no time or patience for idle chit chat etc.

You should not let anyone enter the premises unless they report too the office first . ,
Factory Sites you have too sign a visitors book and get kitted out with a High V Jacket and safety hat
Thats the real world not farming , a laissez faire approach will no doubt eventually end in a court room with tears.

Me watching old school Top Gear while ploughing ?. In my defense I only watch repeats because I couldn't possibly concentrate on something new while keeping a straight furrow ?

Just wait till he has a accident! Ask what happened?
And yet all our tractors (except my own personal Deutz :p) have passenger seats ... in “real” leather in the case of the Fastrac .. so rip them out ?
Training seats.

I am a lecturer at an agricultural college. Bloody phones out during lectures, while carrying out field operations, while in the workshops. Don’t get me wrong, I often glance at my phone to read texts or emails during the day but the youngsters today seem addicted to them. Ban the things during working hours in my opinion. As for mates turning up, your insurance company would have a fit if someone got hurt. H&S executive likewise if someone got seriously hurt or killed.
Two blokes from H&S drove a car into the field where I was silaging some years ago. I didn't stop because I thought they were reps that should have more sense.
More sense be damned! One of the idiots jumped on the step of the moving forager tractor, which was going at a fair lick, and opened the door and identified himself. He was lucky that he identified himself immediately or I would have stopped and put his lights out with a knuckle sandwich.

Nip this in the bud get a employees handbook written up may cost you a few hundred quid but you'll be thankful in the end. In that document you can add rules and specific requirements. Have it drawn up by a professional HR company (one man band). Also include a section for self employed.

Everyone hates HR and all the BS but you need to take a more professional view.

Dont be scared to issue a memo on this. Its find of informal chat but it goes in writing and you file it in the employers file.

As much as its nice to have mates joining in. Its no different to anyone else in employment it doesnt happen and since youve allowed it to happen in the past you have set a precedent.
