Sorry I am afraid you you suffer delusions and are completely out of touch with reality :banghead: I fear you rather over estimate how much your government values your contribution! As farmers we don't make the decisions when it comes to our country importing less food and being more self sufficient! Yes what we have now isnt working and those in charge have a plan to change it, but its not exactly the plan you suggest! Not sure if you have noticed but our urban centric parliament have already put in the schedule to scrap farm subsidies. And for those for which it has yet to sink in ELMs is not a BPS replacement, it is a countryside stewardship replacement, it will offer little more than cover costs and income foregone for installing and managing environmental options. Agriculture is a tiny bit of the UK economy, we are a tiny minority of voters but providing the masses with cheap food wins votes. Rather than enforce increased self sufficient the stated goal of this government is to do the exact opposite, it is to increase free trade, to welcome Brazilian Beef, New Zealand lamb etc etc

I don't think the government values any farmer until there's a food shortage then were the best thing since sliced bread, just don't see the point in importing food that we can produce here, we should only import things that we can't produce. If food in the supermarkets was say 75% British produce with no alternative for Brazilian beef or let's say chlorinated chicken then surely we wouldn't need hand outs from government

There's a little country called China and another called India, and Japan all make agricultural equipment
Good one. I presume you have used these Indian and Chinese machines because I have and they are not what people are used to. We have had a couple of tractors on demo a Zoomlion so bad you had to laugh and a Chinese Deutz not good either but lots of fancy displays and i had a John Deere C120 combine on demo not the worst machine i have ever driven because it had a cab but a Matador would give it a good run for its money. India well we have had an indian JCB 3 cx and JS 120 which were o.k but not as good as those from UK but that immaterial as you can buy the UK ones but as for tractors and machinery good luck old fashioned so if you like mf 35s or IH 434s you are in luck the new John Deeres and New Hollands powerful engines in a chocolate frame. I actually bought a chines potato topper it disintegrated and literally took someones eye out. Still try Japan they make some nice rice growing kit.

While the Welsh have little choice, I think you will find that the Scots and possibly the Northern Irish may well choose to abandon ship. Perhaps you haven't been following politics closely enough to recognise the gravity of your own post and its implications for the Union.
Yes I wish the central belt would pee off and take mell Gibson fans with them .

Tell me any other three or four countries or even trading blocks that add up to anything like 43% of our exports. I've asked before and you have yet to come up with any.
You seem to have real difficulty with
Maths 43 is not "a vast majority" Simple question for you, do we export more to Europe than the rest of the world?

With China, I would say you get what you pay for. If you want cheap - they can make it cheap - but as there are a lot of very clever people over there, I would also believe that if you went to them for a robust and reliable item with the specs you required, then they have the nouse to do that too...
China has a reputation of crap - but it not all their fault, and equally not all should be laid at their doorstep. We and many others go their for the cheap labour and low prices, and do not actually care about how it is made if we were to be honest - only how much profit we can screw out of everything we outsource there..

Statistics can be read any way you wish, and if you only focus on the number in terms of pie chart demographic for a collective, then he is correct - however, it does also give an indication on where the other 57%..

Definitely be interesting times ahead..

Chinks will make anything you want good or bad if you want UK quality it will be U.K. cost of you want cheap sh!t .... they do that n all .

I would say we have quite a chequered past on the quality front. We could do a lot more, and far better than we do now - which I truly hope we start doing through all this crap..

Not sure that is true, one of my customers works for a company that designed a new turbo for cars, they sell it to lots of car manufacturers, one of their directors lives virtually full time in China to ensure quality, despite this they chuck a large percentage straight in the scrap bin as quality is so poor, he said they could chuck 80 % away a d it's still cheaper than they can make them here.

It all boils down to money, the ability is here .

Yes, no argument there on the most part. However - we do not want to pay for things, hence why we keep going round in cicles in this country. I would also say we have lost a lot of the skills, and have a deficit of new entrants, because there are not many real apprentices these days, so will take a few years to build our side back.

Yes, but I would say those words were based on country being in full continuous supply from wherever - and not one having to deal with not being able to buy the basic goods due to a pandemic and panic.
It is here, that I truly hope this Pandemic (the start of Many to come I would say), has taught the elected idiots from whichever party, that we need to change our ways and actively become more self sufficient in our dealings - as we cannot rely on outside sources as much as we believe.

Additionally, wasnt She involved in some heated discussions over Tenant / Dairy Farmers etc?
Indeed, there was no shortage of food this year, the pandemic showed how flawed the supply chain is, but no one starved. But if they (HMG) or any government wanted to increase our food security by home grown means, it would require a very long term plan, whereas governments only look at the next election - cheap shopping wins elections.
