Yes, They have been put on hold.
What I can't understand is that if a farm or business has been assured for years, they are not suddenly going to drop standards, so what is the worry?
Is my grainstore suddenly going to become unsuitable? Am I not going to bother with records? sack the rat man? and agronomist? throwaway my emergency action plan? FFS they need to trust us a bit.

The farm standards may not change, but the assurance scheme standards do

They need to keep "updating" the scheme to provide reasons for the inspectors to issue non compliance notices

In other words, invent reasons to keep themselves in a job

Or is this virus situation making me cynical?

Had a long e mail from them yesterday ( sorry cant do link) about how important is that we remain assured at this time and how we must keep the great British product flowing and they will be in touch shortly to do a remote audit and how they will support us through this. I think they may have forgotten we can do the job just as well or better for now with out their input.

I really don't think the should be putting farmers under extra stress/ hassle than they are now under by doing remote inspections.

Making a appointment to come see you is a waste of time, I know when they go to some neighbours because they have a major tidy up
Vosa don’t tell when there going to pull you up at the side of the road
personally i think if the farmer is a tidy person , thats how they
a assurance scheme doesn’t make any difference, apart from the farmer who tidys up etc for a week a year

I could take you to a tidy yard where they haven't a clue about animal welfare, monied and from SE bought a place with 50 acres and are now "key workers"

I can also take you to
untidy poor welfare
Untidy good welfare
Tidy good welfare.

Just because a lorry is new doesn't mean it's safe. Boeing 737 max anyone?

inspections are finally on hold but the scheme still stands and according to the email yesterday they are thinking up new ways to complicate and add costs to our businesses through these already difficult and extra complex times

the entire scheme should be suspended until this is over / there is absolutely no need for assurance right now whatsoever

The entire food chain needs simplification to help it run as smooth as possible, farms, hauliers, merchants, processors, distributors and retailers are all under extra pressure / short staffed so the last thing we need is more pointless paperwork to do

I suggest we ALL send them a email today saying they MUST suspend the scheme until further notice

This is the email yesterday’s statement came from [email protected]. to send your emails to

They have had our money fo this this year back in October so can still pay their wages ! they can even claim the 80% from the government as a bonus if they stay home ....... as they should

I suggest ALL Red Tractor employees and inspectors sign up to the NHS volunteers scheme today instead and do something that is actually needed right now

I am a member of two assurance standard schemes, organic and red tractor. I can not sell my produce anywhere to cover my costs without either of them.
One is a legal scheme the other isnt

I suspect the new rule will be that you you have to wash your hands thoroughly before and after every job you complete, and document it. Documenting it will also count as a job, and therefore needs to be documented, repeat ad infinitude! This means that if ever they rock up to your yard, if you’re not either washing your hands or documenting it, they have you for a non-conformance!

Online audits might be the straw to break the camels back. Perhaps it’s time for a mass refusal - after all we actually employ them, pay their wages etc., they need us en masse as much as we need them individually.

Grain, Beef and sheep go first. At least you can sell it. Milk. No chance.

Perhaps they realise how little people care about FA when there is empty food shelves !?! Trying to protect their cash cow before farmers jump ship !!

As a refusenik from these stupid schemes, I'm not amazed at the rubbish you posters have to put up with. MrNoo has the right idea, a simple scheme that only relates to the storage of corn etc, and nothing else.

The point is welfare and food standards are in place anyway, in a scheme or not. The legislation is there.
