Feeding Rye.

Does anyone feed Rye in there cattle finishing rations?
I have used oats, wheat and barley, but with the increasing amount growing locally I wondered how it performed.

Pedigree herd near us feeds ‘cracker feed’ it’s the waste out of the ryvita factory & pelleted . Stock look really well on it .
Natives so not fed anything special just this and hay .

Not sure what it’s proper name is or where to source

I'm told a lot goes into pig feed and had the right amino acids for them, but I was unsure about fattening cattle.

Yes, I put it in my ration finishing cattle, generally cheaper than Barley and cattle do the same DLWG on it.

Is that as wholecrop or combined?

@Overrun have you considered triticale, a wheat/rye hybrid?

Combined, all bought in grain here.

I think all yields are down this year, but rye is easier to grow on light land than barley, I think that's why more and more about round here.
