Digestate on all mine now. That's all for barley. Agronomist won't be happy if FBI did all the oats with smelly juice, so will top up when / if rows appear. Dry now. Wettest winter ever. Worst drilling period ever. Now not going to get any rain in two months. That's a little silly.

I read that in the UK it does not rain. Here in Spain we have had an extremely rainy month of April. We are going to have problems to prepare the sunflower planting and that is going to be planted a lot because in the autumn little cereal was planted.

There are people who say that due to the low pollution due to the low traffic of cars and planes due to the confinement of the covid 19, the atmosphere is rewarding us with water. many of us think that it is a lot of reward and for a long time

120units on spinrg barley?
Why so much? You're on lighter ground arent you?
Im pushing all out for yield, sod the malsters. Most except the early drilled stuff has had 90 units so if it says dry I've got enough for a crop but if theres some rain in the forecast theres enough stuff in the shed to go higher and try and get a bit more out of it.

Over the years I've pushed N higher and have always been rewarded with yield I got to 110 units last year so I may have reached the plateau but I'll push it a little more and find out.

It is light land but on the whole it is very good lightland.

Never heard of anyone ploughing down N. Hope it works for you. 150 is a lot more than we ever do but then we go for malting most years (though why i'm bothering this year i have no idea).

I'm not sure how quickly a crop of spring barley would get hold of N ploughed down, I'd have thought it would be a few weeks before roots reached plough depth. Spread on the ploughed and worked into the top few inches with the drill would be my preferred option but im always keen to hear about other techniques, I'm not criticising if it works crack on.

@flat10 I've got enough N in the shed to go with a planned 120 units on spring barley, sod the maltsters crown or for farmers wont will gladly take it.

I've never done it either - I couldn't get on between the plough and combi drill as the contractors had both machines in the field, combi drill about 30mins max behind the plough. I'd rather have it nicely below ground and moist so it's converted by the time the roots do ge there. Next (final) dose will be on top tomorrow so it should reach one of the other before too long.

I’m a farmer not a meteorologist! When do YOU think it will rain? All my N on apart from the last 100 kg N dose on the winter wheat. All pre ems on too. A bit of rain would wake them up, hopefully.

Hopefully this time tomorrow I shall be able to say the same thing.....albeit I doubt I'll manage to get the AnS on in time but that will follow before long.

We've had some heavy dews these morning.... Put fert on the lawn last night and amazed the prills on the path were soft and starting to really melt this morning ...i'll be giving it a go in a couple of days as the spring barley is just through.... Will be using Nitram...as it's had a lot of P and K over the winter with Slurry and muck before its was ploughed.... Not much rain on the forecast for the next 2 weeks here in cumbria...yes wishing I'd put some on before drilling ....

Started chucking the Urea around today with the hope of rain on friday ?.
1st half of the SB drilled well out the ground and looking good. 2nd half is sitting ungerminated in dry soil.
Was gonna chuck all N on (minus the last ww split), but not sure whether to leave the ungerminated stuff until it starts to grow and see what we have. It does have a 30u in seedbed.

Remember urea does take a little more time to get going because it has to convert twice.
