For sb you want it on early so it uses it for growth and not end up making the grain n level high if you are growing for the malting market .

Agreed. Spring malting barley needs it applied before tillering.

I see you were applying some liquid to yours yesterday.

Yep all n/s on spring barley now just need this rain . That you drilled for us i recon is still the best looking sb we have . Some at another farm might have to put another gear in the combine gearbox to get some speed to keep the combine full . That is if this rain doesn't get down to germinate it .
The best bit of spring wheat is what was ploughed out of grass and ph combi drilled looks a picture.

It's a long time until harvest, and it's also currently raining

How much S/SO3 did you apply to SB please?

Soil samples taken in Feb showed very low sulphur levels, unsurprisingly after such a long wet spell. I use N30.3 10.4 SO3 here on everything, so will tissue test and post harvest grain test some to see if that continues to be the right dose. Planet got 144 kg N and 51 kg SO3. Laureate a bit less due to lower grain N wanted.

Thanks @Brisel - had a reasonable soaking now. Was very much odd showers til about 6pm when it was pretty steady wet rain for half an hour or so.

We are due a bit more tonight and through to tomorrow morning looking at the forecast.

Decided to nip out this afternoon and make a start on the Ammonium Sulphate. Managed to get the majority done - just a hopperful on the away ground to do.

Might put a bit on the SB too - it's already had 150kgN, so another 20kg would be a bit overkill (and it'll need a good PGR!!) but tempted to do it for the 60kg SO3.

Left all the fert in the bag, will see if anything will make use of it later in the month or I can see a return on investment from spreading it

I would try to put it on the problem is if no rain comes for another month then it might mean that you might wish you had cut the rate a bit . If you wait two more weeks and its dry it wont go any where . What kg n ha are you aiming to take it to . It really is bugger if you do or bugger if you don't situation
