FFS Pls Minette Batters make the NFU get a proper PR manager /Media handler and sack instantly the one you have ,as simple interviews are cannon fodder to farmer haters

A headline popped up on my screen from the Daily mail ,and of course couldn't help myself , reason for the post isn't directly regarding the comments by Minette but more importantly the general consensus of the comments by the public that the article generates/stirs up .

ttps://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7222657/Farmers-union-chief-warns-No-Deal-Brexit-lead-slaughter-entire-flocks-animals.html

While we may not like or agree with the views of the 'public' we need to take heed , food is in fact too cheap
,certainly by historical value's it is ,and food prices are where they are today because of subsidies , without them food prices would have to go up , cheap food is a political winner and farmers are a easy political football .Too many of the public think farmers are free loaders and remember these people have the right to vote and there are more of them that us

The NFU must employ a great PR/Media consultant company if they want the right to speak as 'A voice of British Farming ' if not step aside .
Trouble is I dont think any group has a real voice and probably the largest most diverse cross section of farmers in numbers in one group is here on TFF , any other voices are unwieldy dinosaurs in this media age

Adding to this while I appreciate that the NFU Mutual is nothing to do with the NFU it should be forced to hand over say £100m ( with profits in the past of £1bn) that is easily possible and contribute to supporting an
industry that has got it to where it is and now needs urgent media help to change attitudes and perceptions of the public towards Farmers across the UK

They probably need someone better but most companies will tell you they need someone better, it’s finding them that’s the problem. ‘Good’ anything is rare Excellent is almost none existent. Plenty of farmers on here can’t or won’t employ someone as basic as a GFW. Imagine how difficult it is to find someone who can change an industry as complicated as agriculture.

I also noticed that the Batters interview on Sky this morning had her standing in front of a tractor, a tractor worth more than the average person's salary 2x time's over, likely paid for by taxpayers money whilst also pleading farmer poverty.

It's not Minette's or anyone's at the top fault, this sort of thing should be stage managed and organised by professional PR people.

It’s akin to protesting outside supermarkets with new £100k tractors, forage harvesters and loads of new Jap pickups :banghead:
That’s a good idea, we haven’t done that in a while. Unfortunately I haven’t got any of the above mentioned items so I won’t be able to join in, I haven’t even got one of them Ralph Lawrence tee shirts:rolleyes:

Let's be balanced, appearing on a Sunday on TV in a smart polo shirt is a very sensible and pragmatic choice in what to wear IMO and actually as long as someone can't remember but didn't stand out as scruffy or whatever, shouldn't even come in to it. It's what was said and how it was said that counts
good job you turned up when you did JP or would have had to call on @gone up the hill to defend her :)

When I had to do a media course (ironically because the NFU thought I might actually aspire to be the local chairman) we were specifically warned against standing near to anything that could be perceived as "wealth".

The NFU should be concentrating on making sure sheep farmers get some compensation if they put a 40% tariff on exports, or making sure all food imports from the EU have similar tariffs.

They should make sure any food imported should be to the same high standards as ours is. No rape which has had neonics used for example.

Peter Kendall should be shamed into getting the AHDB's @rses into gear and start selling and promoting our products instead of moaning about Brexit all the time.

I think Minnette is a good president of the NFU, best we've had for ages.IMHO!

Image is everything and what you wear is important but you need to be careful what side you portray. Just wear an non-branded t-shirt and dont stand in front of a shiny JD its not rocket science its what the public see its just more fuel for the public to go around telling us we are rich and "you never see a poor farmer" comment. No wonder they keep saying it when an image on TV like this. All she had to do was give this some 5 second thought. Change the shirt and stand in front of an old piece of machinery. Havent the NFU got branded polos anyway? No hope.
