Do you not think these "inspectors" are going over the top with all this? It just makes them pure jobsworths. If an animal is dead..........it is dead!Nah!! Try again. I know someone who has just had a RPA eartag inspection and will be getting a non conformance comment on the end report as the movement or death of 3 baby calves and 3 cows were not showing up on BCMS. Guess how many years they had to go back .. and they were able to, much to the inspectors surprise, using on farm records.. but as it wasn't on CTS, it didn't count as 'proof'. I'll give you a clue. You are WAY, WAY out with both 3 and 7 years!!
No point chucking away the movement book, fascinating reading in future years, ours goes back at least 70 years.
I have movement book from 1945 when Grandfather became an Attested herd.No point chucking away the movement book, fascinating reading in future years, ours goes back at least 70 years.
We’ve got grandad’s too, going back to the 1950s. Our birth book goes back to 1971.
But could this be a can of the proverbial if these handwritten historical scribes are to be used against us now?
We have a couple of eartags available to use on CTS, which were attached to the ears of two b/w bull calves, about 25 years ago. Market receipts show them sold, but no one can seem to get these OAPs removed.
Must be RT traceability failureNever throw away anything to do with the herd! My friend was asked to account for three B&W calves that were, according to BCMS, apparently still alive and kicking on farm, aged 24!!! They dug out a herd book going back to 1969 to show that the 3 calves did indeed leave the farm in 1997. This was only partially successful as not accepted as proven as not 'official' CTS records and no, I kid you not. They really did want details from 24 years ago! Print outs of whole herd TB tests were not acceptable either for a variety of reasons. Digging deep into my memory, I seem to remember that 1997 was during BSE and there was some sort of official scheme to cull B&W calves, and I'm sure if my friend had the time and inclination to go digging through their records, they would find the relevant proof. My only observation is 'oh, get a life!'
