Firt spinners.

We are looking at changing our firt spinner. After a couple of reps not getting back to us we have got down to the last 2. It looks like a choices between a KRM M35w base and an Amazone ZA-TS both with section control and veri rate, Running through a Claas s10 . what is to like and not like about each. I have my own ideas and can see the pros and cons of each. To replace a vicon ROM GEO ( for sale on classifieds).

Just count up all the actuators on the Amazone in comparison with the KRM.
Actuators are expensive 😉

any reason for not going vicon again. Just ordered a weigh cell vicon. Out of the 2 I’d go Krm.

We've priced a few KV group machines and for a few reasons such as poor deal, change dealers and dealers not coming back to us vicon/kv look to be out of the frame but not totally.

Krm can accurately weigh when spreading across a hill side. No sure about the new amazones but the old ones could not. How do they both compair on loading height.

Kuhn didn't get back to me with a price so I'm not chasing them. I think they would be out on price anyway. I'm not to sure about the pros and cons of hydraulic over PTO. It seems as if it is good or bad depending on which you sell.

Go hydraulic if at all possible . They've all got good and bad points personally I think the kv/vicon disc arrangement will be very bad to beat but there's other things about it I'd change if I could

I like the simplicity of the KRM and the spread pattern but the Amazone while complex does have the better agitators and I like the hydraulic drives. Price is similar on both machines. How does second hand value hold up. Paint work looks better on the KRM.

Your neighbours have a ZA-TS that does colossal acreage, ask the driver how he finds it. I preferred the KV Geospread myself and know of a lot of people who have had agitator and gearbox issues with their KRM’s. Only 1 person I know of with the HEMC Kuhn and they’ve had a few now.
I looked at them all 4-5 years ago in a fine tooth comb and went to look at a few working and the Geospread was by far the best, backup wasn’t needed either but no idea what the machine is like now

On my 3rd krm current one is a m2w with isobus control and section control. Think it’s going into it’s 6th season. They are a great machine. Nice and simple to use, I do a spread check with Scs each year and we can always get a good spread pattern.
It has been very reliable, the agitator bearings are much much better since they changed to 2 for each agitator. I no longer keep a spare and haven’t changed one for a couple of years. I had to do a bearing immediately below one of the discs this year. Easy to do myself, it’s spread 1500t of product so I don’t think that’s too bad.
The isobus control is great and section control just works. With the 3 machines I have never been inside the reversing gearbox.

I like being able to have a 4 bag machine that is not wider than the tractor. Very handy on the road and squeezing through small gateways on grazing land.

I’d buy another tomorrow

we have a KRM M35w, was the first of the new style model and getting on very well. It’s accurate, we’ve not managed to strip anything in 3(?) yrs, despite me occasionally forgetting to switch it out of headland mode 🙄.
Paint seems to be holding up well, veins are expensive, had a couple of issues with light units but other than that it’s been good.
easy to set and the weigh cell seems accurate. I like the channels to divert power washer around the frame for cleaning too. Not used section control yet as current tractor is pre technology.

Lots of happy KRM users round this way, not over complicated and good residual values when you want to change for another. We have a 20 year old Sulky that owes us nothing. Will look at both makes when change time comes.
