Ford 4630 throttle linkage

After some more advice from your wealth of knollage. I’ve attached a picture of the throttle linkage on the tractor. The left rod as your looking at the picture is the foot throttle and the right the hand throttle. Does anyone know how these work. I would believe that the foot throttle should work independently and the. The hand throttle should lift them both. At the moment the hand and foot throttle move together at all times.

I take it the cable C is going to the pump, the cable is attached to linkage A which is the foot throttle, this moves and operates the injector pump this is independent of linkage B. When you pull the hand throttle linkage B moves A via the pin beside the cable mount in the picture.
Hope this helps.................................................................

You are thinking exactly what I was thinking. I had it all apart and I can’t see a seam where they would move independently. Maybe it’s just rusted up so much. I can make a
New one no problem my next question is where does the spring for the foot throttle go. As at the moment it just sticks with the hand throttle.

If you follow both cable's towards fuel inj pump you will find both are attached to a small arm from that arm a spring go's forward to a small bracket bolted to front cove....

I can see that spring I wouldn’t think that would have been strong enough to pull the foot peddle back, but I could be wrong. Seen as they both seam stuck together st the moment I’ll have to take it apart again and see if I can get those to rods to move separately

There could be a spring to pull foot throttle back somewhere near basenof pedal
Yea I’ll have to take the dash out to find that. I’m thinking of stripping the linkage again and modifying it so they work independently. I’m assuming they used to work that way but now the are stuck solid. Like they are welded together

Did you have any luck with this after? I seem to be having a similar issue....tia

Hey yea I did sort it out but I can’t remember exactly what I did. I can go up tomorrow and take a look. I do remember I took the whole lot apart and it was rusted solid. Ill get some photos tomorrow of how it work if you want no bother.

What exactly are you having problems with. The throttles stuck together or the foot throttle not returning ?
The foot throttle not returning. Its been stiff since we got it (about 3 months) but not its near impossible to move.

Was under the cab yesterday because the cable came off the linkage and all of that seen loose enough but I might be missing something

I thought there might be a spring under the dash but there no sign of one on the NH assembly diagram...

There is no spring under the dash or under the cab for the foot throttle to return. What I did find is where the throttle cable joins the fuel injection pump there is a small hole in the cam and another small hole in the cam that joins the engine stop cable the the fuel Injection pump. I joined a spring to these to and that worked for me when the throttle is pushed it pulls it back and when the stop cable is pulled it pushes back easier. But it will depend on what fuel pump you have. I don’t know if there was a spring there in the first place but while digging around below the pump I found a spring of similar size. The hand throttle will still stay in place as it has friction plates at the base of the handle.
hope that helps any other questions let me know and I’ll see what I can do

If its anything like my 5030 there should be a return spring on the pump item 32. Follow line 27 through. Would also advise checking the cable for corrosion/splitting, they are prone to it. That will snag it internally and slow down reaction.

I get what your saying, could you send on a pic of how you've set that up please?

I still tending to think that my issue is with the linkage or just the foot throttle assembly as even when the cable was off it was still almost impossible to move...

Yup that's the same set up on the 4630, the spring is there but seem very light, may have been replaced at some stage

Here are a few pictures of the set up. You can see the spring had to go around the pipe. The other 3 photos show the throttle linkage at rest then with the foot throttle pushed down then with the hand throttle on. Hope that makes sense. I have notice the rust it’s back on in a big way. Unfortunately mu 4630 is stored out side

That's great tibbo, sound!

Don't have a rust issue but we do have a loader on which makes access a pain in the hole...the pic is the only bit of access I can get to it from underneath.

hopefully get another look at it over the weekend.

Does your 4630 have a cab on ? Mine does so that might change the lay out a little. Unfortunately when I bought mine it had a hard life. It’s rusted but the engine is solid and all the linkage and PTO work so it’s does the job for me. Do you have the 8x8 shuttle gearbox on yours. ?
