Hello

Speaking with the Genus rep who has some very competitive prices and he mentioned a new sexed Crossbred called Metric. He's genomic.

Hold x jersey with the Hol being Medley and the Jersey from Fastrac.

Does anyone know anything about these pedigrees and in particular, the grazing ability in their backgrounds.

Thanks

Is there sufficient data to give Genomic proofs of Holstein x Jersey crossbreds any validity?
I would love to do genomic testing of my 3 way cross replacement heifers ( procross) , but don't feel that the results would mean anything yet.

What breeds are you using in your three way cross

Have you ever tried jersey instead of montbeluarde or criss cross swedish red and holstein
No.
Calf price is/ was part of the reason.
Started on crossbreeding, a few years ago, for all the usual reasons, health fertility etc. We had a herd of high genetic Holsteins on a very simple, old system. They just didn't work for us, we couldn't feed them, so needed a quick fix. Our 3 way cross provided this, and its worked for us, so stuck with it.
Too late in my career now to start with other crosses, within 4 years of selling up

How do you find the crossbredd when you cross back after the first two crosses when you go back to holstein

Quite happy with them, hardly see the vet, calved 90+ since Christmas , had vet once to a calving.
Get in calf far easier, less mastitis , less lameness, better teats were getting far too small and close together.
They are all colours, shapes and sizes , the feet and udders not as smart as in the pure bred days but they work better.
Holstein X Swedish Red X Monty and back to Holstein and round again, so the Holstein calves are out of Monty cows.
We don't record at all so the honest truth is I haven't a clue how its working, but annual milk sales and bottom line all tell a reasonable story.
