Grass seed rate for wedding

Don't think i need to worry anymore. My brother got worried it was going to be too thin and that my ag mix was just silage grass so he's ordered 100kg of 'amenity grass' off the internet. It's just 85% rye grass and 25% fescue. The internet is telling him to sow 50 grams a m2, which, if my maths is right, is 500kg ha. I think someone is doing a good job at selling a lot of seed. I think i will just throw it all in the fert spreder and drive the quad over it again and again and again...

Will there be any problems with sowing it too thick?

4046 m2 in an acre x 2 = 8092m2 x 40gm2 (seed rate) = 323,680/1000 = 323.68 Kg of seed required. Sowing too thick not going to be a problem. :cautious:

Your sowing rate will be fine. It is getting later now for this sort of thing, keep watch for slugs although I doubt they will be able to do enough damage at that plant population. Weeds can be nailed out fairly easy if required.

Just broadcast it, don't try to drill it, amenity grass is a different beast to anything you are going to buy in an acre pack from your local merchant.

No prizes for guessing which company sorts out the music festival that occurs in this area.

Daughter booked a field for her wedding reception, nice thick grassland, owner mowed it regularly and prepared carefully for the big day. Then got fed up mowing and put sheep on it. Full of sheep muck the day before so hurried relocation to a local school hall. :cautious:

I suspect the grass won't establish well enough to support heels so I would suggest some cheapy carpet near the reception area where people mill about so the ladies can relax. We had some that was a bit like thick terram in a cream colour which looked good.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
