Looking at buying some group calf hutches, currently have calftel individual hutches that have been good and must be about 20 years old now
Are all group hutches a similar size
Which ones would you recommend?

We had Calftel group hutches holding 5 comfortably. We also had igloos.

The hutch was a better buy as we found the igloos were awkward to use and we suffered pneumonia in them.
TBH, if you are rearing any sort of number, a bespoke calf building would be a better long term investment seeing as group hutches are £600-700 each (at least) and igloos are north of £1600 each.
Spend £15000 on a proper shed & amortize it over 20 years
Plus fibreglass suffers wind damage. Wind destroyed all our hutches within 4 years despite efforts to stop them blowing away

Would be looking at getting 2 or 3 of the group hutches that hold about 5 or 6, just to easy the pressure on our old stone buildings as we have pulled the cows in to more of an autumn ish block for calving

The beauty of the group hutches against a shed is that you can move the hutches around to give the shed/area a wash and rest. There are no permanent posts or postholes so any shed area can be cleared of hutches and used for something else if need be.

We have got these but try and only put four calves in each hutch as we try and leave them in there after weaning which we find reduces stress and therefore pneumonia. I think they were getting on for £900 including the penning and feeder.

Where was that being stored?
Ours are in a very exposed area not moved an inch so far!!
More concerned the verandas will take off [emoji15]

Tis the wind on the Saint Isle. Takes no prisoners and just shows that you cannot fudge with nature.
Not a fan of the igloos in any case. Too expensive and don't vent as well as a group hutch. And just as prone to being damaged
