I'm wondering if @admin wants to tidy this up as I've taken it a bit off topic now, and I'm sure there are plenty with crops left to cut.
That could be a quote from Jeremy Corbyn!I sit on the fence in all matters Brexit, hence alienate both sides.

@teslacoils That explains a lot. Experience has made me uncomfortable of those whose religion I have been told before I know them well enough to ask. Without exception the only people that I discovered the religion of [I liked them wel enough to ask something very personal] have been Quakers. Probably why I have time for you and your posts.I was part of a Quaker group who marched as part of the CND Scrap Trident march where Corbyn pledged to scrap it. Seems he has changed his mind on that. You can't trust them as far as you can throw them. Ideology, science, they all get trampled on for £££ and / self interest.
It was both reasons, not just the oneI've used variations of Tesla and static since the days of fwi. Sigh.
it had stopped being fun.
In what way? I'm generally up for any thread that is helpful or useful, be that herbicides, costings, dead horse manouvering, or whatever.
One of the best things said on this forum. Also, last bales shifted. Harvest 19 officially over.
That is what happened here, £4.7m for a 40 plot development, a nice earner for no effortLike it or not over the years not many bonafide farmers have made a fortune from farming alone, they may have had a nice lifestyle but not made a fortune, unless one is fortunate enough to sell some acres to grow a one off crop of houses.??
No section 106 or affordable housing requirement? That is what happened here, £4.7m for a 40 plot development, a nice earner for no effort
In poor price years its getting to be a very expensive hobby !! Makes playing golf almost attractive. Back in 2005 when entitlements were brought in to replace straight Arable aid we availed of the opportunity to consoldate our entitlements on 50% of our farmed area. We dropped from over 600 acres of crops to 350 kicked a lot of rented ground back to its owners so the could look for another mug to work for buttons . Best decision ever for years after we pocketed a large SFP cheque on land we no longer rented just reward for years of been turned over by greedy land agents. Sure it was hard to pull out of fields we had farmed for decades but with labour costs gone through the roof and the retirement of our last remaining worker a couple of years before I my brother and elderly father were doing it all on our own. Many times i returned home late at night with a load of grain loaded the drier and then went for the cows to milk them . My wife would be alone half the night and although she never complained it was hard on her . Capital released from the sale of some of the kit and the insurance cheque from the combine which went on fire were invested in the dairy enterprise which for years had played second fiddle . Best of luck Teslacoils , remember you are not retreating just advancing in another direction......Farming now without certain actives and ingenious things like neonic seed coatings is like playing cricket with a broken bat.
It's not fun any more when you are ploughing or spraying off crops that have been ruined largely for uninformed political reasons.
Arable farming is over the hill, unless something changes soon. No longer worth investing money, and more importantly your time and energy in. It's an industry non grata, about as politically fashionable as coal mining.
Time to sit it out and batten down the hatches. Do something else.
It's still a nice enough hobby though, but a rubbish way of making a living.
