Hauling your own milk

@Baldrick , surely you could pump it to the dairy as you’re that close?! :p

We are cogitating as per but the major problem is that our schedule doesn’t specify a haulage charge. However there must be a deduction somewhere and even at 1ppl that’s worth well north of £200 to shift high solid milk 6 miles or over £3k/mth or £36k per year

With a tractor towed tanker yes
6 weekly inspections paperwork and road tax, plus white diesel take the shine off the lorry job

Metcalf farms just have the Arctic trailers instead of a bulk tank so yes all that is needed in their situation is a tractor unit which both they and Payne’s dairies have plenty of. On the front of each trailer there was a sign stating the trailers must be weighed, so yes it can be done and is, but you would have to talk to your dairy to see if they are interested or not before you get too far down the line.

Tractor towed yes. Less than 30 mins in to dairy and could haul 28000 litres every other day. Say 2 hour round trip including off load and wash out. Could pick our time too (for a premium if they want it after midnight :pompous: )

Not a massive issue but the local collection only has 18000 litre tankers so having to part load every other day which can be a minor nuisance as we need to insert a T piece so they can collect if we’re milkng

Yes won’t do anything without having the green light from the dairy. Just kicking an idea around as we do

If you did it with a tractor you'd have to be careful with trailer weights, 18T isn't it? If its close by you might get away with it but it would only take one overloading fine to ruin your day if someone potted you.
Your trailer would have to fit their system for unloading and CIP. If they only run rigids it might not have the capacity for a large trailer and you'd be charged for the CIP I'd imagine which wont be cheap.
Calibrated flow meter on the trailer or done on weight? sampling?
Do they always use the milk even if the factory has problems or do they sell some to other buyers? You might have to take it elsewhere.
Doable, especially if you run a truck for other things but plenty of problems.

Have you taken any land out of production from last autumn?
